Violet Ripken, the 74-year-old mother of Orioles star Cal Ripken Jr., has returned home safely after being abducted at gunpoint from her Aberdeen home, police said Wednesday.

Ripken was abducted by a man between 7 and 8 a.m. Tuesday after he pulled a handgun and forced her into a 1998 Lincoln Town Car, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

The Aberdeen Police Department received a call from Baltimore County police about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, saying they had received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the Ebenezer Road area that may have something to do with the case.

"This has been a very trying time for our family, but we are grateful and relieved that mom is back with us, safe and healthy," said a statement released by the Ripken family. "We want to thank everyone for their tremendous support, especially all of the law enforcement agencies that worked so hard and quickly."

The suspect was described as a white male in his late 30s to early 40s.

Violet Ripken was located about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday unharmed in her vehicle in close proximity to her home, police said.

The Baltimore County Police Department had issued a media advisory at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday calling the case a missing persons investigation, before calling off the search one hour later.

The FBI is assisting Harford County authorities in the investigation, along with Maryland State Police, and the Baltimore County Police Department.

I wonder how high the Dodgers are willing to let their payroll get. As best I can tell they have about $135 million committed next year. That doesn't include any of Yasiel Puig's 7-year, $42 million contract, which I couldn't find any reports of how it is structured and how much he is due each year. That $135 million would have been the 5th highest payroll this season.

Looks like they are at about 147 million next year with dead salaries. Can you believe we are still paying Andrew Jones and Manny's salary? Kershaw and Kemp alone double their salary from this year.

You're probably right. Ichiro was a good addition for NY but I'm still having trouble seeing them as the favorite in the AL with their pitching. Though sometimes a really good offense can make up for poor starting pitching as the 2009 Yankees showed.

As difficult as it is to believe, I think the Yanks average age actually went UP with the addition of Suzuki. Their staff won't get it done in the post season.
