Q: Is there any risk of a class action lawsuit against Toshiba for the format war?
A: [For early adopters] there will be always be a risk in buying, that is how it works in the US. We are just hardware maker, so our legal risk is relatively low, we believe.
They're saying - if you have what is now a Toshiba doorstop, well tough luck.

You'll find out when Universal and Paramount make announcements as a result of this.

Just a h/w maker, my ass. This whole war was fought for IP $ and now they are acting innocent.

If it was only about h/w, they would not have sold their h/w below cost in hopes of beating BD.

When asked if there were any plans for a next gen optical disc, they said that there were no plans to be announced at that time. I wonder if they have something up their sleeve...

I hope the BDA makes uni and paramount get on their knees for being so stupid and defiant.

It is the word for word press release from Toshiba... no copyright infringement. Although, the OP should have used the "wrap quote" option to make it stand out properly as such.

Oh... and... once again...

I'd rather they welcome them with open arms so I can get my Spielberg movies and some other stuff from Universal and Paramount like Bourne and Braveheart.

I have seen them edited by mods stating that, thats why I am assuming you cant do that as they are not your "own words".

Q: How many HD DVD players and recorders, exactly, did you sell?
A: 600,000 players in the US -- 300,000 of which were Xbox 360 HD DVD drives. 100,000 units were sold in Europe. And about 10,000 players and 20,000 recorders in Japan. So about 730,000 units worldwide.
One million my foot.

Castro Resigns Cuban Presidency

HAVANA (AP) — Ailing leader Fidel Castro resigned as Cuba's president from nearly a half-century early Tuesday, saying in a letter published in online official media that he would not accept a new term when the newly elected parliament meets on Sunday.

"I will not aspire nor accept — I repeat I will not aspire or accept, the post of President of the Council of State and Commander in Chief," read a letter signed by Castro published quietly overnight without advance warning in the online edition of the Communist Party daily Granma.

The new National Assembly is meeting for first time Sunday since January elections to pick the governing Council of State, including the presidency Castro holds. There had been wide speculation about whether he would accept a nomination for reelection to that post or retire.

The 81-year-old Castro's overnight announcement effectively ends his rule of almost 50 years over Cuba, positioning his 76-year-old brother Raul for permanent succession to the presidency.
Well, I guess so! Times are a changing.
