Default Pioneer Elite Pro150FD

So, I'm pretty sure I've convinced myself to get this TV, especially since a local retailer said their price was $2000 less than best buy (they won't quote price over the phone so best buy said they couldn't price match )

I'm wondering if this eliter plasma has the 120Hz, like the sony XBR? I assume it does, I was just looking on their website and couldn't find it under specifications.

I may buy it tonight

I believe it is 72hz, which would still be 1080P/24 capable.

120Hz is only on LCD technology. That being said, the Pro 150FD is possibly the best flat panel on the planet.

Would there be any disadvantage to 72hz over 120hz, since there is nothing that uses 120hz at this time, and probably won't for a while.

The hz finally pushed me over the edge to want to get a new TV, I was looking at the difference getting a bluray one night and I was like wow F 1080p, HA!

I was looking at the pioneer and the XBR5 today and I liked them both. I think I liked the sony though, cause that's the sort of picture that I'm used to. The Pioneer was beautiful though, and I like the extra eight inches. If the difference between 120 and 72 hz is significant then maybe I'm still on the fence, otherwise (since 72 hz is still 3 times the rate of film, it's still be good, but is 5 times better than 3?)

Another point, would 72 hz mess with displaying a 30hz or 60hz feed?

Well that's what I heard, and if you're getting plasma you should go with the 150 FD, but if you're going LCD you should go XBR 5 for top of the line...but I guess I'm essentially just torn between plasma and LCD, but hertz could mean something too.

Sometimes I hate being addicted to technology

Default Go with the Elite

The Elite is a better TV when it comes to accuracy of color and black levels by a mile. Its also got ISF ccc calibration circuitry so getting the optimized picture for your rooms environment both day and night settings which will allow a finer tuner picture. As far as the 72HZ vs 120HZ, That shouldnt matter to an end user when buying a plasma. 120HZ is needed on LCD's to compensate for a slower pixel refresh rate. The Elite will smoke it by all Videophile standards!

making the panel rectangular in shape. So, you can't knock them for everything :-) Both plasma panels and LCD panels are equally rectangular ;-)

If you were going LCD, I think that the newer Samsungs are better than the Sony units.......here is the one I have....sorry for the link, but I'm at work so its all I had time for!

I have the PRO-110FD (I sit too close to get the 60") and I love it. I recently upgraded from a PRO-1130HD 1080i, and the difference was significantly noticeable, especially on Blu-ray. The last time I looked at Best Buy the PRO-150FD was priced @ $7,500., so if you can get it for $5,500., that is a good deal.

With a 60" screen the sweet spot is about 10' away. If you get the Pro 150FD, do you have an extra room you can rent?

I have the Pro 950HD and it is awesome. However, every time I see the 150FD I just stand there and stare, I have wake myself to get going with the rest of my life, it truly is an amazing piece of technology.

Whoever told me originally was wrong it was $6499, I'm thinking that's a little more reasonable for best buy to blind price match. I was just checking my posts, but I think I'm on my way to check it out.

It's kinda disappointing cause I wanted to wait and hold out as long as I could, but if best buy were to price match that today, i have a 10% coupon or a triple points coupon that I can use, so I'm essentially forced into it if i can get them to agree, but $6499 plus 6%/10% coupons/discount is pretty good considering its $1000 less MSRP

-and its only 300 over the stodgy "you'll never get it" companies on google
