That's why I said in my post that it may use VC-1 instead of MPEG-4 AVC. I don't mind that personally...as long as they use a BD-50 disc on both flicks.

I don't understand the BD-50 logic.. unless I'm missing something when it comes to Warner releasing Dreamworks movies? Do they fill up the disk rather than giving a 30GB low bitrate encode with DD5.1 sound?

This movie is released by Dreamworks via Paramount (Paramount purchased Dreamworks last year). Warner is releasing Letters from Iwo Jima in the US.

As for the audio...this is the one area where Paramount is letting everyone down. Their "new" releases have all been reference in the video department and I can only imagine how a TrueHD soundtrack would sound on this movie...but we will never know. I have questioned Paramount regarding their audio choice, but haven't had a response from them as of yet. I did some blind testing with a friend on the HD DVD vs. BD soundtrack, and my friend couldn't tell the difference and thought they both sounded wonderful.

Is this OOP? It looks like it was a Paramount/Dreamworks movie. I see Amazon has it. I liked the movie, is the Blu-Ray any good?

its pretty good, it has IMO a 4 out of 5 for PQ and 4/5 for AQ, the scene in the beginning when the ships are heading to the island and they let loose on the big cannons, the bass hits good and hard. the only draw back is its only a 640 dolby track, so if your system supports lossless audio it will leave a little to be desired, but i liked the movie and think this BD did the movie justice. i did hear that their was a release in europe somewhere that had pcm added on the soundtrack, so if that's a must you might look for that one.

thanks
anthony

I heard the sound quality is not as good as the HD DVD version but the PQ is alright. I was planning on getting this but they are asking $37 for it.

US and UK have the same extras, US is 640kbs DD lossy whereas UK has PCM Uncompressed and 640kbs DD audio.

BREAKING NEWS

New doubts have emerged about the iconic image of U.S. Marines raising a flag over Iwo Jima in World War II

Tuesday, May 3, 2016 5:53 PM EDT

The identity of an American serviceman in one of the most iconic photographs of World War II, the raising of the American flag over Iwo Jima, has been called into question by his son, who wrote a best-selling book that memorialized his father’s role.
James Bradley, the author of “Flags of Our Fathers,” said in an interview Tuesday that he no longer believed that his father, John Bradley, a Navy corpsman, was one of the six men who have been long identified in the photograph.
