They are really pushing Denon and Pioneer Elite receivers at Best Buy. I told the guy they were out of my price range, and he told me no receiver within my price range will decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. I told him the Onkyo SR 605, and 705 are within my range, and all he did was talk crap about Onkyo. Jackass.

For that reason I cannot stand going to CC or BBy. I do a lot of research before I step into a store to buy something, exp in the electronics area, as everything changed day by day. I personally enjoy my Onkyo 674 (last year model). Just need my PS3 decode the newer audio codec, so I can enjoy my fox movie titles. If i had a few to spend I would surely throw down some money for a 605 or 705 (depending on budget)

my husband works at Best Buy and no, they do not have any receivers in that price range to do what you want. He ended up buying the onkyo 605

That's cause they don't carry them.

Just got the Onkyo 605 from Amazon $339 delivered. You save $$$ if you take the silver one. Worked for me.

Ok I know that this may sound like a stupid question, but 399 for black, 349 for silver.... is that truely the ONLY differance ????

Why do people think the salespeople at BB are experts? Most are college students, or people just working a part-time job. Do your own research. Go to BB prepared and knowing exactly what you want.

Well, I just got back from bb 10 min ago with two new BD. I would have to say either they lie on purpose or have no idea what they are talking about.

In front of me in line was a 10-13 year old and his Mom, with a Xbox in hand; she was asking her kid all kinds of stuff about the xbox. Some stuff he was on, and some stuff he had no idea what he was talking about. She saw me and said " oh, we are holding up the line " and nicely moved past the counter. I was paying for my movies when I noticed a geek with a blue shirt and a BB name tag come up to Mom. As I was all paid up and walking past I hear the geek say " no, xbox will never have a blu-ray player because they are the competition. That would be like us and CC doing something together, you want this because Toshiba and Microsoft work together and this plays HD-DVDs"

Could not believe my ears, I stopped and said "excuse me, hate to interrupt but Toshiba pulled the plug on HD-DVD on Tuesday, its done. Microsoft may have to build a blu player if the want a piece of the pie. Can't tell you they will and can't tell you they won't but I can tell you for sure that HD-DVD is dead, the future is blu.

Geek boy's shirt turned the color of someone at CC.

well if thats the only difference for the price is the color, then I am going with silver as the TV is wall mounted and the components are hidden in a built in audio rack. To be honest, I don't know WHY I keep going back to Best Try..err Buy.. but I do. One final question, in the reviews alot of people are complaining about audio "Popping" or "buzzing" with the 605.. I am ready to press the order button but don't want to have the same problems. Most of y'all (can you tell I'm in Texas) have nothing but great things to say about the Onkyo, just wondering about that one last thing...

It could be a ground looping issue with some cases...also it can be from the changing of audio codecs within the receiver which can create a 'pop' sound. But I think Onkyo has fixed any known bugs by now so current models shouldn't have any problems. My father has a 605 and Ive never noticed this phenomena.

I would not let that deter you. The Onkyo 605 is a good buy.

(Amazon does have a good return policy)

Yes. Silver doesn't sell as well. Black is back as the preferred color of components.

Yup, they make you pay more for black. When buying a receiver with HDMI, some only do HDMI switching (below $500 usually). You want HDMI sound processing. Also, 1080p will be passed through any receiver, it's just sometimes the receiver only upscales to 720p or something for any video signal that is not sent through HDMI. Onkyo 605 is the best choice I have seen so far.
