Tigers and Leyland reach extension

The Tigers have extended manager Jim Leyland's contract through 2013.

This confirms reports by Tom Gage of the Detroit News and Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com. All of Leyland's coaches have also been invited back, including Toby Harrah as the club's assistant hitting coach.

Yankees exercised OF Curtis Granderson's $15 million option for 2013.

Granderson's option was originally for $13 million, but it increased to $15 million because he finished top-five in MVP balloting in 2011. Despite his postseason struggles, Granderson had a career-high 43 home runs last season. The New York Post believes the Yankees will avoid trading him in a reactionary move.

And the Tigers just picked up options for Dotel and Peralta

In a flurry of activity on Tuesday morning, the Tigers exercised the options on Peralta and relief pitcher Octavio Dotel.

That's after they announced Jim Leyland's one-year contract extension.

Peralta will make $6 million in 2013. Dotel will make $3.5 million.

Of the Tigers free Agents they just stated they will only Pursue Sanchez so Young, Laird, and Valverde are gone

Dombrowski also said that the team would only actively pursue one of their four free agents — starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez, designated hitter Delmon Young, closer Jose Valverde and backup Gerald Laird in the offseason.

"In (Valverde's) case, I don't think we'll be pursuing him," Dombrowski said, hinting that there are other options for the closer position, including minor-leaguer Bruce Rondon.

"We talked to Delmon Young and at this point, we were very thankful for the things they have done for us but we have to make some business decisions as well," Dombrowski said.

Yankees closer Soriano has opted out of his last year of a 3 year deal.. Puzzling move as he was due $14M in 2013... Is he expecting a new contract? More money? I would doubt the Yankees do that after coming off the injury and his age and all...

Any Yankee fans want to chime in?

After a good 2012 it was expected that he would opt out, and he'll get a $1.5 million buyout for opting out. His agent is Scott Boras and Boras told the Yankees he believes Soriano will get a 4-year deal worth $15-$16 million per year, and while the Yankees want him back they aren't going to pay him that much, and considering Soriano has had 2 elbow surgeries I'd be shocked if any team paid near that much.
