So I got an awesome anniversary gift from my wife, she got me the "This is my farm, I'll die here" print! What a great surprise! I went to michaels tonight hoping to find a frame, but the closest they had was 11.75" by 36". Where can I find a 12" by 36"?

You could always go to a local framer and inquire as to what it would cost to frame that professionally. Go with an acid-free backing and matte if you choose to matte at all, but it may be worth the extra money to have it done custom by a local framer in your area. Just remember the most important part...DON'T let them drymount it.

There has to be other frame stores than just Michael's in your area. Michael's tends to be high when it comes to their framing prices, however, if they quoted you that price BEFORE any framing discount coupons (which generally appear in the Sunday newspaper ads which can sometimes be 40-50% off framing) then after the coupon it would run you roughly $90 to frame. They did get in trouble not long ago about their framing price quotes and the coupons, so I am sure they aren't wanting to get more bad press, but if the price they quoted you was before any coupons, then the next time they run a coupon, take the quote (if a written quote) in with the coupon.

Ac Moore had some when I was there, but you could always look online as there are many resources for that size frame as well.

Typical frame jobs even at a professional framer, will feature standard foam backing, acid-free is more expensive and you would want to request it. Same with acid-free matte around the print, IF you go that route, and UV glass if you feel the need to protect the print from ultraviolet rays, etc. Think of it as going to buy a car, you can choose one off the lot for a set price, or you can customize the car with things you want for an added charge. |

I just bought a Pan's Labyrinth poster from Poster Revolution. Extremely disappointed. Super low resolution and it's all wavy, similar to what I would get if I attempted a poster on my inkjet printer.
http://www.posterrevolution.com/gall....cfm?ID=692448 Anyone else purchased from there? How have your posters been? *I do realize they are reproduction and will not compare to real theater posters. And that this thread seems to be about real theater posters and limited prints. |

I thought they were reputable. They are one of the largest poster sites on the internet. It appears the same artwork was used to promote the soundtrack, and I'm sure someone just jacked this image. Damn shame it is so bad because I love the artwork. I am going to redo the room in all DC comics stuff anyway. Still disappointed. Live and learn, I guess.

Generally a company that has a license to print posters promote themselves on the posters by having their logo printed on them too. Was the Poster Revolution logo, if any, mentioned on your Pan's Labyrinth poster? They claim on their site they sell authentic licensed posters, and perhaps they do, but it sounds like the quality is pretty low based on how you described your poster you received. Unfortunately there are a lot of websites offering the same poorly made posters that you received, it's nothing new, and will continue. Original authentic movie posters are very difficult to find and are only getting more difficult, some titles harder to find than others. There are some good dealers out there that stock originals and reproductions, and there are those who specialize in only originals such as myself, who don't carry reproductions at all. The problem though is so many people assume they are getting an original especially when they see the size 27x40. There are so many fakes out there of more in-demand posters (The Dark Knight, Spider-Man, Twilight just to name a few), it is really sad to think how many people assume they have originals when all they have is a knock-off. Lastly, not every image that gets released online turns out to be an official poster. Websites are notorious for posting these images they get from a studio and claim they are posters, a lot of the times because the image"appears" to look just like a poster and they go based on that and what they are told, but in reality some of the time, turns out never to be a poster, or turns out to be a banner, or bus-shelter poster. An example of this was for the 2nd Sherlock Holmes movie. Two character style images were released online which looked like two character posters, but turned out never to be anything more than promotional images, and a few months later the actual posters came out and looked nothing like what the images were released previously. This happens every so often, not always, but one thing you have to watch out for are those poster sellers who copy these images and start selling them as "posters" on their websites and that gets people thinking they were posters that were created for the film, when in fact they never were. |

That Pan's Labyrinth art is by Drew Struzan (guy who did the original movie posters for Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Thing and loads of other moveis) and is officially licensed but I doubt any normal poster of it was ever made. I think he sold some limited autographed prints of it on his website but his limited prints generally cost in the hundreds. The cheapest quality prints of that image that I know of were put out by a British magazine that sells an autographed version for around $75 US but I believe it's also only 11x17 or around that.
Just checked Mr. Struzan's site and he has this available. It's 30x40 and costs only .... $1700. Struzan Pans Labyrinth Last edited by Blu_gun; 12-03-2012 at 04:57 AM. |

That explains the crap quality. Like I mentioned in a previous post, I'm doing the whole room in DC Comics stuff now. So I guess it doesn't matter. Doubtful I will be buying many more movie posters. DC has awesome prints you can buy directly so I may go that route.

Got a new DSLR Today and am going to take some pictures of the prints in my room.
Im loving these Mondo Prints and Limited Artist prints as i am new to collecting Non theatrical posters, its such an expensive hobby though. How much do you reckon you guys have spent on Prints?, and if you missed the initial run of posters would you pay extra to get it if you really liked it? As i am noticing some old Mondo's that i would love to have and they seem to be going for £150+ - Panic |
