On the bullseye. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was "dwarf tossing" times ten. It was like watching a foreign comedy and you're not getting the jokes.

Dude there was a yahoo front page news story advising people to be extremely wary of the HFR because of how many people are not diggin' it.

IN other news this is now predicted to do around $115 million for the 3 days which is insane . Breaks the Dec. record by like almost $50 million. Possible $200 million worldwide by sunday

What was lighthearted? The brutal decapitations?

That was one of my main issues, it was mature and filled with shlock at the same time, it has a bit of an identity crisis.
Jackson does have a habit of mixing both. There were only
[Show spoiler]two decaps that I remember, and the first one of the orc holding the dead king's head was a bit of a shock.

At least we did not get to see the
[Show spoiler]Goblin king spill his guts.

found a great example of why i hate critics!!

i forget his name....but he's the reviewer on worstpreviews.com

A surefire sign that "The Hobbit" could have been made into one feature film, and been better for it: in the finished version of "An Unexpected Journey," everything seems to take three times longer than necessary to get through. Thus, when Gandalf and the thirteen dwarves crash Bilbo's home, rushing around like Kevin McCallister's relatives at the beginning of "Home Alone" and making a mess of the place before revealing their purpose for showing up, what should have taken up ten minutes of screen time runs on and on for over thirty, taking up precious time with a burping contest and not one, but two, musical numbers.
this was a fantastic scene and i thought it played out very well when compared to the book!!

Haha, I was fully expecting the latter to happen.

The thing about the goofy LOTR moments was that they were left on the cutting room floor, such as Pippin farting, the drinking game, the hobbits getting high in Isengaurd etc...The Hobbit is essentially its own extended edition so it all got left in the final film.

Umm..you hate other people's opinions when you don't agree, you don't personally hate the critic. You wouldn't be saying that if the critic shared your opinion.

Yep. I agree also.

In fact I had a big grin on my face all throughout that first 45 min.

I thought the Goblin Kings voice fit perfectly with how he looked and acted.

I don't get the critics faulting the movie because it takes too long to get going. I though critics liked long boring drawn out scenes of people just talking for no reason? I thought that was what we have award season for?

The one character that was worse than jar jar was Ori. Joke of a Dwarf.

Who? The one critic that was cited? Please...

But on that note why are so many people so upset with other people's opinions? Seems if you care so much you are very insecure about your own thought systems.

While I still want a 2nd viewing to absorb the film more fully, I can't help but feel a tad underwhelmed at the moment. The film itself was perfectly entertaining, but I feel like it somewhat didn't live up to my expectations. Maybe that's unfair of me, but there were some things that bugged me. While the film didn't feel overlong to me at all, it did seem a bit sluggish in the middle - which is something I would have never said of LotR. I also wasn't fond of the more aggressive use of CG effects, as opposed to the first trilogy (but I suppose that's to be expected).

It may just be that it felt a bit odd seeing and hearing all these characters I know so well doing different things than in the trilogy. Even line readings felt odd to me at first (probably due to hearing said lines in my head over the years while reading the book). The film was still good, just not quite the excellence that was delivered with LotR. Which, again, may be a bit unfair of me (they are my favorite films of all time).

I am looking forward to my second viewing - so that I can see the film on it's own terms, as opposed to comparing it to both the book and the other films. Though, I haven't yet made up my mind if I want to see it in 2D once again, or if I'll dive in for the 48fps 3D.

I will say, though, that the Riddles in the Dark sequence was all kinds of awesomeness.

Yeah, and Yahoo are so reliable on this issue and would in NO WAY try and hype a negative story for negativities sake, would they??

Just saw a clip on TV and wow, it looked fast! Watching the film last night it looked fine but that clip there, I can certainly see the difference in the frame rate.
EDIT: In saying that the clip was 2D and obviously 48fps is for 3D.

No I found the same issue, I said it didn't exceed expectations but perhaps a small percentage wasn't met. I 'll tell you though after a day maybe, I thought back on the movie a lot kinder, I will be going for a second dip, but certainly aided by the interest in the new HFR format (I missed the opportunity as the local cinema's projector went bust). I think its a bloody good film on it's own, I also have to remember we are 1/3rd the way through.

I will not be a game changer, it is simply another method similar to 70mm in the 60s, 70mm 6 track in the 80s, digital sound in the 90s, etc etc.

No,it isn't.... we'll have this discussion in 5 years, and then there's still time for you to admit I was right all along.

Its not,

The future of cinema will be 4K digital. HFR technology will be used for tentpoles the same way IMAX is being used right now to promote big pictures

Nobody will care for a movie like Stories we Tell or Trouble With a Curve in HFR...it will be a niche thing just like IMAX
