Has a single report every once brought up Bagwell or Piazza's name with PED's? I mean I know they "probably" used, I'm just a bit uncomfortable keeping an a guy out of the Hall who has the numbers to get in just because of unfounded suspicion. Of course unless some dirt on Bagwell him finds it's way public I think he'll make it in very soon. His his share of the votes jumped big this year.

The 2014 HOF class should be very good.
Greg Maddux - Definite first ballot.
Tom Glavine - Should be first ballot
Frank Thomas - Numbers warrant first ballot but who knows how many voters will just assume he juiced even though there's (I think) nothing concrete that he did.
Mike Mussina - Seems borderline HOF pitcher. Had he pitched a few more seasons he likely would have surpassed 300 wins

Default Toronto Blue Jays tickets purchased!

Bought myself a package of ten games for our 2013 World Series champions Toronto Blue Jays. Their soon-to-be defeated opponents:

Red Sox (April 6)
Yankees (April 20)
Giants (May 14)
Rangers (June 6)
Tigers (July 1 - Canada Day)
Dodgers (July 22)
Athletics (August 10)
Red Sox (August 15)
Yankees (September 19)
Rays (September 29 - final game of the regular season)

I typically buy myself a very expensive seat to a handful of games. This season, I went instead with the 10 game package with my seats in left and right field (the second cheapest in the dome), so it will be a different experience. Oh, and this package cost me $22 less than the four games I attended last year.

April can't come soon enough!

Whoa there fella. Takes a lot more than flashy signings and trades to be on the top of the AL East at the end of the season. Just ask the 2011 Red Sox. There's also a reason the Yanks have missed out on the playoffs once in 18 years.

The best they got on Piazza is that he had noticeable back acne during most of his playing days. Yes a side effect of steroids is back acne but if that's the best they got, they should have to induct him. Bagwell because his power jumped from the minors that he must be taking according to stupid voters. Bagwell was a gym rat though. It's also why he had so many major injuries at the end from overdoing it at the gym.

Frank Thomas was outspoken about PED's in the early 90's and was the only guy to volunteer his services for the Mitchell report. That's either incredibly smart to make no one suspect him or that he didn't take any. The risks seem too high for him to be so outspoken about it if he was a regular user. Finger wag for example tried that and screwed up shortly after.

Biggio has to make it. His career hits, runs and doubles totals are all staggering amounts.

The Baseball Hall of Fame votes are announced today at 2:00 ET on MLB Network. Virtually every projection believes that nobody will get in. To get in you have to get 75% of the votes, and projections have Craig Biggio getting the closest at around 70% followed by Jack Morris at around 65%. If nobody is elected then their won't be anyone alive getting elected, as the Veterans Committee elected former Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert (died in 1939), umpire Hank O'Day (died in 1935), and catcher Deacon White (died in 1939).

Rumor going around about a possible 3 way Trade between Orioles, Cubs, and Tigers. So far only players named are Rick Porcello to Cubs and J.J. Hardy to Detroit, no word yet on who Baltimore would get in the deal.

It's a joke that Biggio isn't first ballot. Bagwell should be in too. Obviously a lot of voters are just making baseless assumptions with regard to who juiced, which is what's keeping Bagwell out.

Obviously Biggio did not use so I have no idea why he got hosed. The guy had 3,060 hits, good spee with 414 stolen bases, terrific fielder with 4 Gold Gloves, 7x All-Star and 5x Silver Slugger. Should be first ballot.

How do you think Tigers fans feel about Trammell and Morris. Trammell should have already been in and Morris should be in this vote but he wont be.

Neither one of those guys has the numbers to get in. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be, but you can't compare Biggio not getting in to either one of those guys.

Don't forget the whopping 668 doubles. I actually read somewhere that Biggio shouldn't get in because his highest rbi total in a single season was 88. Are people that stupid? He was a either the leadoff hitter or #2 hitter in his career. Of course his rbi totals won't be those that power hitters batting third of fourth with far more rbi chances.

I agree especially about Morris. Morris vote share shouldn't even be as high as it is. One epic game should not suddenly make you a hall of famer. His numbers aren't as good as David Wells and we don't expect him to go into the hall. Dennis Martinez had a similar career to Morris and he didn't even get 5%.

Since when are just the numbers the measure of a good player. In the 1980's Morris was a lights out pitcher behind only Ryan and Clemens. His ERA may be just a tad bit higher at 3.90 but rarely has anyone else gone 24 outs consistently in every single start in his career.

Roger Clemens in 24 seasons had 4900 IP with a 3.12 Era, 4672 Strike Outs
Nolan Ryan in 27 seasons had 5700 IP with a 3.64, 5717 Strike Outs
Jack Morris in 18 seasons had 3900 IP with a 3.90 ERA , 2478 Strike Outs

And for the person saying Martinez had a similar career yes and no Martinez pitched as much as Ryan and had half the numbers

Dennis Martinez 23 seasons had 4000 IP with a 3.70 ERA, 2148 Strike Outs

Quote:
The biggest argument against Morris is that his 3.90 ERA would be the highest in the Hall of Fame — Red Ruffing's 3.80 currently being the highest.

But of the 70 pitchers in the Hall of Fame, Morris would be tied for 30th with 254 victories.

He also would rank 18th with 2,478 strikeouts.

So while he would trail the pack with his elevated earned run average, he'd be well positioned in other categories.

In reading the article about nobody making the HOF they mention Yogi Berra only had 68% and missed the first ballot when he was eligible decades ago. How the heck did 32% of the writers NOT think Berra was a first ballot HOF'er?

I personally think Piazza should have gotten more votes. Greatest hitting catcher of all time and is not really linked to PEDs.

Agreed on both points, what we really need is a new panel of voters, maybe some who have, ya know, ACTUALLY played baseball

Numbers have always been what the HoF cares about. That's why a top 5 player in the 80s (Dale Murphy) was at 17% this year (his last year of eligibility), while Morris was at 65% (in his next to last year).

And he played from 1977-1994. Nearly all of that time was in the dead ball era. A 3.90 ERA isn't a HOF number for a starter in that era. His post-season ERA was almsot identical at 3.80. Not a single season of his career was his ERA under 3.00 and he never once finished 1st or 2nd in the Cy Young vote. I'm sorry but that isn't a HOF career.
