For my 14 MPG.... prices of gas are rough, but I'm sure the Europeans here will chime in with what REALLY high gas prices are. Americans don't have any room to complain if you ask me.
Besides, if you are THAT price sensitive to things like gasoline, you shouldn't be in the market for Blu-Ray or HD DVD, or Cable/Satellite Television for that matter. All of these things are consumer goods that the price sensitive shouldn't spend their money on....... it's like people on welfare (or Wel-Fate as I call it) that drink and smoke..... but I'll save that rant for another day. |

cost of gas is filtered into everything including blu. the cost of shipping the blu, shipping the materials to make blu. it all comes back to us. thats why we bought a small vw for commuting. suv sits until we take a trip or go somewhere with the kids. and i dont use my truck that much any more, i miss it

I'll agree with you that Europeans have it rough, but they also have a Public transportation system that works. Thats something that besides NY, doesn't exist in America.

For those who are concerned with the price of gas, they certainly shouldn't have I-Phones!
It's just rough, and I appologize, but I was just venting a little.... My wife is a physician at a small family clinic that treats a predominantly un-insured population. We spend money on certain things we enjoy, everyone does, but just a few weeks ago she was telling me about seeing a young girl, who was in there, paying on the "sliding scale" so her entire visit was $5 or so, but she had an I-Phone...... my wife was just mystified at why this girl, with no insurance, on public assistance, would have an I-Phone. I was just trying to say, if prices of gas were putting that big of a strain on your budget, you probably shouldn't have jumped into HD yet, be it Blu-Ray, or a $3,000 television..... I guess I was raised with conservative values, and was taught at an early age to SAVE SAVE SAVE...... My parents still scoffed at me when they visited us, and saw the T.V. and other stuff..... my parents were actually disappointed because they raised me to know better. I'm sure if people wanted to they could max out credit cards for Blu-Rays.... it's your right to do so I guess, so have fun..... I've gotta save, because it always rains when you're least prepared. |

Not everyone can do it, but a heck of a lot of people could use public transit, if their own selfish reasons for driving were examined. Certainly more than one person per car should be doable. All those people on the road are going the same direction as you, and none of you could travel together? Gary |

I don't do it necessarily to save money, and I'm obviously not an environmental nut, otherwise I'd buy a fuel efficient vehicle..... I just do it because it really doesn't make sense to drive to work..... There ARE other cities out there with good public transportation...... but I do agree that Europe has their ducks in a row..... could be due to the $8+ gallons of gas..... Hmm?????? |

The main thing high gas prices are cutting into is my driving. I've been doing a lot more to consolidate trips and even use my 24-speed trail bicycle for some errands.
Overall, I fill up my pickup truck once a month. If gasoline hits $4 a barrel, I'm going to choose to drive even less. I hope more and more people will do something similar to what I'm doing on driving conservatively. Oil prices are already way past any justification by market fundamentals. Greedy speculators are the ones pushing up prices further and further in the futures markets. If demand for gasoline really starts dropping those greedy bastards will lose a fortune. That would be fine my me. Anyone buying into oil futures at this point has to be crazy. |
