Price check them using the scanners that are set up in certain aisles. They might be $5.

Before that, the last place to carry it was Blockbuster, which was fireselling it for $10 back in 2011.

Yep. Wal-Mart is a very YMMV store, with differing prices and differing stock across the country (and even in stores that are close to each other). Just because something isn't at one Wal-Mart definitely doesn't mean it won't be at another.

And just because something is a certain price at one Wal-Mart definitely doesn't mean it will be the same price at another. The Wal-Mart closest to where my parents live still has a couple copies of the three disc version of this in the $5 bin, and it still rings up for $5 (I know because I bought one for my dad last week when I was visiting). But the Wal-Mart closest to where I live has it for $24.XX (and that's the price it rings up for).

Wow, lucky you. Here, the $5 bin is for DVDs only and the Blu-ray bin is $7.88. YMMV fer sure!

Last year many Wal-Marts had a couple rounds of $5 Blu-rays (threads here and here talked about them). Some stores put them in displays, some put them in separate $5 Blu-ray bins, and other stores (including the ones around me) mixed them in the bin with the $5 DVDs.

The Wal-Marts around me now have the $7.88 Blu-ray bin, but the $5 DVD bin still has some of the leftover $5 Blu-ray titles from last year, along with some of the $5 clearance Blu-ray titles (such as Star Trek and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen).

But yeah, Wal-Mart is always YMMV on a number of things.

I honestly would not say no to an extended cut of Star Trek. But I'm curious, how much can they extend it?

They could finish the visual effects for the Deleted Scenes and re-integrate them via seamless branching.

Kind of late to this one, but I can echo everyone's YMMV when it comes to OOP movies. I haven't looked in a while, but some of my local stores still had them in stock. Not sure if this is a Anderson account or not, but it is interesting to see these still on the shelves. When I was a merchandiser it was our job to occasionally pull things and return them back to our company. I really need to pop this into player once I catch up on my BD's(probably about the time the new movie comes out ). Really enjoy this interpretation even if some of my Trekkie(er) friends want to dispute it until nauseum Oh, before I forget. Don't get rid of your DC disc after redeeming. I had to return my computer back to factory settings some time ago and had to put my iTunes back up(Before Cloud, which I still haven't used). The only one of my movies that didn't work was Scott Pilgrim. Luckily Apple was able to send me another code for that movie. Damn, another movie I need to watch again. Love that movie.

Just picked the 3-disk version (with slip) up at Walmart yesterday. I guessed that it was around $20, and asked the cashier to price-check it for me. When she said that it was $5, I was ecstatic. I had no idea that this release was out of print, and selling upwards of $40.

the next part is supposed to mention the animated series coming to bluray. looks like theyare going all out with the bluray releases.
Your not the only one. I like it as a movie but as Trek, well. I agree with everything he said.

And do you get as much grief as I do when you say it wasn't that good for a Trek movie? People just tune out when you mention plot holes and dumb things like long range transporters. That's why I am glad TNG, Enterprise and apparently the Animated series are coming out on bluray this year(and not in 3D) - the rest of the world can enjoy the more accessible( and dumbed down) Abrams' Trek, I'll stay home and enjoy these instead.

Please. I'm a huge TREK fan and watched the 2009 film from beginning to end with a huge smile on my face. You are not the arbiter of what makes Star Trek STAR TREK. The new film may have had its flaws and plot holes but none bigger than in the other films. It certainly wasn't an awful film like THE FINAL FRONTIER was. How much dumber can you get on that one?

"More accessible" means STAR TREK continues on for another generation. Believe it or not that film opened up the original series, TNG, and other shows for an audience that had completely dismissed TREK entirely.

Agreed. I've been a Trek fan for 15 years, collected the shows first on VHS, later on DVD and now on BR. I have absolutely no problem accepting Trek '09 as part of the franchise. There have been FAR WORSE episodes and movies.

wow - see this is what i mean. i say i don't like it and everyone who does like it starts screaming that i am not the arbiter of what makes Trek Trek. I expressed my opinion and can support it. Just because you like it doesn't make it Trek either. it was a poorly done movie with tons of plot holes yet because it looks good, people say it is a great film. what made it a great film? I wanted to like this film, i was excited when this film was coming out, i am not hating it because they went in a different direction - i hate it because it is a bad movie. The Final Frontier was a bad movie too but at least people say it was bad - people treat the 09 movie like it is the best thing to happen to the series. I am glad that people are watching the other series because they saw this movie but you are missing the point - they are not watching the series just because they liked the movie, they are watching it because it is a good series. anyone who i talked to who had started watching the series quickly admit that the movie is not nearly as good as the series were. the movie got them to it but it was their own perception that stopped them from watching the series before - had they actually watched the series before they watched the movie, i bet they would have kept watching the series anyways. for every people who is watching the series, how many still think of the 09 movie as Star Trek and that's it - they never watch the series? I am not going to sit in this thread and argue if the movie is good or not because this is not the place but if you want to argue that the movie is good, back it up. I can when I say the movie is bad.

The movie may have had plot holes but it wasn't the only one. WRATH OF KHAN had Chekov recognizing Khan and the Reliant not figuring out why Ceti Alpha VI was not in its orbit (plus if you count planets it would still be Ceti Alpha V), just to name a couple.

In Trek '09 I found out more about Kirk and Spock's backstory in half an hour than I did in 40 years worth of TOS and the original crew films.

Trek '09 finally had a budget that the filmmakers were able to tell the type of story they wanted where they wanted and not be limited by that.

Trek '09 had great performances by all the actors involved.

Trek '09 had a director that cared how the film looked.

At 2+ hours it still felt short. No discussions of tachyon fields and polarity reversals either. Something either worked or it didn't, the technobabble was kept at minimum.

The story was good and did what it needed to do: introduce the characters and get them all together by the end into the format of the original series.

The reasons you give for it being a "bad" film seem petty, nitpicking, and behind the times. This film breathed new life into a dead franchise.

technobabble? Ah yes. I've heard people say that before. I have my thoughts on that, but I better keep it to myself.

you are entitled to your opinion but how can you say i am nitpicking when you haven't heard my reasons? you have already decided that i am wrong and you don't want to listen to what i have to say. Paramount got the flavor of the month and gave him a ton of money and total control to do whatever movie he liked. why didn't they do that for the other movies? tell me First Contact or Undiscovered Country wouldn't have done the same thing if Paramount actually gave them a proper budget? What did you learn about the backstory - that Kirk's dad died and that Spock was teased as a kid? big deal. why did Kirk take the car? why was he racing it towards the edge of a cliff? why did Spock choose the Vulcan path and not more human since he was so close to his mother? how about the stupidity of taking someone who was about to be kicked out of the Academy and putting them in command of a ship? Real nice "screw you" to others in Starfleet. How about Nimoy at the end remembering the launch of the Enterprise except for one problem -that launch never happened since McCoy and Chekov weren't apart of the crew when Kirk took command. you are entitled to your opinion and i am entitled to mine but don't tell me that i am an idiot and nitpicking when i have legit issues with the movie.
