Update: Pioneer to end plasma panel production

I think this is becoming pretty much standard in the electronics industry.

Sony and Samsung share a manufacturing plant for their screens, and it dosen't hurt either of them.

I expect the Panasonic/Pioneer arrangement wont have any real effect on the consumers. It is just how business gets done in today's day and age.

In fact, I expect the Pioneers may come down in price a bit due to less money being lost by them in manufacturing in-house. I highly doubt that quality would drop at all. Perhaps with the two companies working even closer together we'll see even greater improvements in future Plasma TVs.
