Good to hear someone honest enough to admit it. These 100% ironclad guaranteed contracts are what's been hurting MLB for a long time. Thing is Tex wasn't worth $20+ mill a year even at the beginning of that deal the Yankees gave him. This is what the Yankees still have to pay Tex and A-Rod for the remainder of those ridiculous deals.

A-Rod: 5 years, $114 mill (maybe more depending on career HR bonuses)
Teixeira: 4 years, $90 mill

So far Sabathia has lived up to his huge contract, but he's still due $94 mill over the next 4 seasons guaranteed. And by the end of the deal he'll be around 36 years old.

Braves don't view Prado as a $10 million player. And frankly, Justin Upton is as good as Prado with way more upside. One is a solid everyday player at multiple positions; one is a top 5 MVP candidate.

Baseball is like the exact opposite of football. Baseball pays for what you have done, while football pays for what you are projected to do. And football can cut you loose at anytime if you're not keeping up.

Same here. I'd prefer to have Justin Upton over Prado, even though I liked Prado. I do think we overpaid on BJ Upton, but it might work out well having both brothers together. It's an outstanding defensive OF to be sure.

Really sad to see Prado go, but this deal just made too much sense for the Braves not to pull the trigger. With raises coming to many of our younger players, it would of been tough to afford Prado anyways.

I'm crazy excited about this team, but also apprehensive. Because if this offense stalls, oh boy, will it stall.

But the pitching should keep the games close. In most, we might only need 1 or 2 big hits.

upton is already better than prado...and he could be a top 3 player in the national league consistently....prado is a nice player, keyword being nice....upton is a very good player, who can be elite....massive difference between the 2

I'm saying that there will be stretches during the season where the offense is going to struggle to score runs and where the offense will drown in strike outs.

If contracts are no longer 100% guaranteed, then they have to have a Salary Cap. The only thing that stops certain teams from buying a championship every single year is the amount of money they have tied up in players who didn't pan out.

The Yankees or Dodgers would offer players more money per year than some team's entire combined salary if they could throw the player away at any time. No good player would ever sign a long term contract with any other team, in the hopes that they'd be worth stepping up to the "big leagues" and getting one of these contracts for their prime years.

Does anyone in here have MLB extra Innings? I'm thinking about getting it for this year, but I'm not sure if it is worth the $200 asking price from DirecTV.

Absolutely, positively, worth it!

I have had MLB Extra Innings since '02 (was the sole reason I jumped over to DirecTv) and I can not recommend it enough.

I'd make sure you understand the blackout policy. I was looking into getting it but here in Iowa we are considered the home territory of the Cubs, White Sox, Brewers, Twins, Cardinals, and Royals so any games featuring those teams would automatically be blacked out on Extra Innings. Granted here in Iowa we have it the worst of any state (along with some of Nevada) in terms of being considered the home territory of 6 teams but I'd just make sure you know which games would be blacked out beforehand.

The main reason I'm getting it is to watch the Blue Jays games, so I would be safe in the blackout aspect, but thanks a lot for the information.

Much like NFL Sunday Ticket, all games are available in HD (given that you have a high definition receiver of course). The majority of the games are also broadcast with the ability to choose which network's coverage you'd like to watch the game with. For example: If the Yankees were playing the Tigers, you could choose whether to watch the YES Network broadcast (Yankees) or Fox Sports Detroit broadcast (Tigers).

If you have a good Internet connection, I'd go with MLB.tv.

What a bum...

Quote:
Yankees' Alex Rodriguez thinks his team and Major League Baseball are out to get him after recent PED scandal: sources

Sources say the embattled Yankee star is “scared” that bigger forces are at work to try to discredit him and sink his career. Holed up in Miami, Rodriguez has been huddling with an army of lawyers and PR people as the performance-enhancing drug scandal enveloping him intensifies.

“He's scared, because he thinks this is so unbelievably false, and he's wondering who could be behind this,” said a source, referring to last week's Miami New Times report linking A-Rod to an alleged Miami-area performance-enhancing drug scandal. “He thinks something could be going on larger than anyone might think.”

The source added that Rodriguez is wondering if the Yankees or even Major League Baseball are behind the latest controversy.
