7 yrs, $175 million.

Contract wipes away his current one, so a 5-year extension. He'll be a Mariner until he's 33.

Seattle is a very manageable/passive media market compared to NYC, Boston, Chicago, etc, which gives him the ability to rake in cash without the suffocating pressure of performing on a major market team. It also may have been the best decision for his wife and children in terms of providing them with stability for the immediate future.

I believe Hafner is set to DH... Youk will start the season at 3rd, but when (if) Rodriguez returns I expect them them to flip-flop Hafner/Youk in the DH role based on righty/lefty pitching matchups.

Can't blame him for taking the extension. All it takes is one arm injury to ruin a career and this will pay him over $135 million more than his prior deal.

It always seemed like Ichiro Suzuki fell into that category too. Ichiro toiled away in obscurity on terrible teams for over a decade in Seattle. I think his only playoff experience out there was in his rookie year.

So Giants tickets went on sale this morning, and the only way to obtain opening day tickets is to buy a Giants six pack for about $600 for two tickets... its actually not that bad, the majority i would be paying for is the opening day $320/pair.. Then I get 5 more games for about $280, which I will probably just sell off anyways as I doubt i'll have the time to attend that many games... I've never been to an opening day, so I may bite on this offer

On Tuesday, he signed 10 autographs for perhaps 40 hopefuls who repeatedly were reminded of their place by a Yankees employee named John Johnson. Because spring training hasn't started yet, there are different expectations for Jeter when it comes to autographs. And dehumanizing rules:

With the glowering demeanor of a drill sergeant, Johnson delivered a series of instructions that several members of his audience could recite from memory: “Single file! No chitchat! He doesn’t want to hear about your personal life, so don’t ask him about his!”

Just glancing at Ebay you can buy autographed official Derek Jeter stuff for $100 or less. You'd have to be a complete idiot to stand in line at 3 AM like those dopes. People are acting like this guy is an all-time great or something. He's a HOF'er, but that's about it. He's not Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle or DiMaggio great and never has been.

I will admit that my dad and I used to get to ballparks at like 7 am and leave around 6 pm during spring training visits. Of course, I've also had days where we went to a team hotel at noon, the ballpark at 4:30, back to the hotel at 11 and been home around 2 am. We once waited an hour outside of a hotel restaurant at 1 am for Jason Isringhausen to come back out before giving up.

I've also seen Bobby Bonilla yell at people about asking for autographs seconds after signing for me (he wouldn't sign at the stadium or in the hotel, but he'd sign between the cab and the hotel)

When I was about 10 I was big into collecting cards. I was at a card show and some minor leaguer named Chipper Jones was signing autographs... for free. I passed as I didn't want to stand in line and didn't know much about him. Great move, huh?

Might not be authenticated, but I got mine in person and didn't pay for it.

This entire box is autographs, almost all of which are baseball (some are wrestling and a handful are basketball).

I wish I still kept them organized like that. I've got boxes and boxes everywhere I've pretty much stopped keeping track of them. I wouldn't be shocked if our clean ladies have been stealing them

You should see my parents basement. Half of the back room is unsigned magazines and figures. Then there's an entire room of autographed magazines, games, balls, statues, helmets, gloves, hockey sticks, posters, everything. It's crazy down there.
