Default HD Audio? Worth it?

I have a PS3 and some Sony 6.1 channel home theater without HD only Dolby Pro Logic 2 or something. Would it be worth it to get HD audio but then doesnt the PS3 not have that yet? And if so what home system under 450 please.

The PS3 internally decodes the hd-audio codecs and sends them out as multi-ch pcm via HDMI (except for DTS-MA - this is supposed to be added some day via a firmware patch). So all you need is a receiver that is capable of receiving multi-ch pcm and an HDMI cable. For your budget, the Onkyo TX-SR605 is a great choice and can be found online for about $400 (Amazon.com has it right now for $402.10 w/free shipping).

onkyo 605. Check amazon for prices. The silver model is $50 less a the moment.
It's becoming my rallying cry.. 448-640kbps vs. 6-9Mbps. yea, it's a difference. Maybe even better quality than what you get at a movie theater.

The PS3 can transmit PCM, decode TrueHD, and will eventually be able to decode DTSHD-MA... it's a beast

It's an exact replica of the studio master. Your best bet is to go to a audio shop (not best buy or circuit city) and give a listen in their theater room. It's a VERY noticeable difference.

The kicker with the 800 is that it does not accept HD audio. The 908 does, but you can buy the speakers and receiver for less separately (the 908 has DVD player and ipod dock)

I thought you have speakers? (6.1?)

...or do you have one of those HTiB that is hardwired to the speaker?

Sometimes Amazon will run this receiver for 329.99 with no tax and shipping.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846

Pair that with these and you are pretty close to $500. Pick up a couple cheapies for the other two speakers if you need 7.1 just to hold you over.

Ive got 6.1 speakers 6 speakers and a sub. With a sony reciever they can come apart. Can i add any speaker to the "new" reciever? Alsdo i will be getting assuming HD audio doesnt need HD speakers? so that i would get 7.1 if i added another speaker?

the ideal speaker should be around 6 to 8 ohm rated.

It might say it on the back of your speaker, or let us know what speaker you have?
