Check using the usps.com website. Remember that postage rates just went up very recently so any past experience from someone else may not be good guidance anyhow. Also, rates went up a lot for any shipping to outside the US from what I hear.

I just received my Ken Taylor - Drive poster and am wanting to frame it and put it on its own wall and pay for a expensive frame, my other posters just have boring metallic finishes but i want this frame to be special for my love for the movie,
has anyone got any ideas, or pictures of expensive and good looking frames, it will be going on a matte black/liquorice wall and looks like this [Show spoiler]

I don't know what country you're in, but I had a tube shipped from a member and I believe he paid $10 to have it shipped. I know Mondo charges $18 and I'm certain the rate isn't that high.

$18 is pretty much the exact postal rate to ship those thick yazoo tubes to Canada unless they have a discount on normal shipping costs (which they probably do). Quite frankly, shipping international is expensive in the US and I see alot of internationals just not understand that since they have cheaper service in their country, but we simply don't have that here.

At the end of January the postal rates increased for domestic shipments but also for international shipments and international rates got hit the hardest, all across the services across the board (First Class International/Priority International/Express Mail International) saw major increases. While it used to be cheaper to ship to Canada for example, as opposed to shipping to the United Kingdom, now it's the same price regardless. Shipping to Australia would still be more expensive than other countries, but unfortunately for Canadians, they have to pretty much pay the same amount as those in Europe would pay from people shipping to them from the USA. I believe the postal service probably said to themselves "Hey, we can make money if we just charge the same rate to Canada as we do for other countries because people still need to ship there and UPS/FedEx doesn't offer affordable options there so people will still pay if we increase rates". Sure, I could be stretching it there, but it would not surprise me if they said that behind closed doors especially since the postal service is having major financial problems. You can get better shipping rates if you go through eBay and use their shipping service linked to Paypal, but then you have to deal with eBay and Paypal fees on the item you are selling. There are ways to ship the more affordable First Class option AND have it insured if you go through a 3rd party insurer. I use a company called Inkfrog for my international insurance needs when I sell to international customers on eBay as its linked to my account but still working out the details to see if I can add insurance on non-eBay transactions. This way I can ship First Class which saves my international customers money from being forced to use Priority Mail International to get the insurance coverage and Priority can sometimes cause as much as 2x to 3x the cost of First Class. So in the end it helps save my customers money by having something shipped First Class, and have peace of mind knowing it's insured. Also remember the 4 pound rule.....international shipments for First Class can't exceed 4 pounds, after that it jumps to Priority regardless. Lastly, "cylinder" tubes qualify for First Class, square-boxes can't go First Class for posters/prints. All kinds of little rules and regulations which only add to the confusion... |

Thanks for all the feedback guys re: shipping to Canada. I don't have the print in hand in hand at work, but just ran it through the USPS site (which I've never tried before), and using eyeball measurements it came out to $38 priority before insurance....just FYI.

[Show spoiler] Here's one framed by Corey @ Further Frames in Denver. Not sure about the price on this Drive but I received a quote from him on a different screenprint and the price was $553 before shipping (est. $125-$150) and I'm not 100% sure if that included UV or non-UV glass. I He's the go-to guy over at expressobeans.com. The work he does is beautiful but that was a lot more than I was looking to spend. Nice poster btw. |

Make sure you inform the buyer that if you declare it for full value (depending on what the full value is) there is a chance that the receiver could get hit with a customs import duty tax. I think (and Roar or Cdnblue can chime in on this since they live there) anything over $30 declared value is subject to customs tax and there is no way around that. If you declare for a lesser amount, then you can't insurance for a higher amount. So if its a $200 print, make sure you find out shipping costs plus the extra cost for insurance, and then inform the buyer of all that AND the possibility of them getting hit with a customs import tax as well. |

Shipping via UPS, DHL, FedEx or the likes are 100% guaranteed to pay taxes and duty as they broker the transaction and charge a significantly highly higher fee ($10 for DHL, $25 for UPS) to do so than CanadaPost ($5) does on a USPS package. I've had packages declared for >$200 come from USPS and not be dinged for taxes and duty where as I've had packages for <$50 come through UPS and get dinged. It really is a crap shoot. I have never been charged taxes or duty on a print from Mondo, though that is likely because they always ship it with a $5 value ![]() ![]() |
