![]() Both are my style actually but, unlike you, I DO NOT COMPROMISE MY QUALITY STANDARDS! P.S. I would buy Death and the Maiden in an instant on Blu-Ray (with lossless audio of course)... even though 95% of the movie takes place between 4 walls and there are no special effects to speak of. I actually saw that movie in the theaters as well ![]() |

![]() Not worth my time. Back on topic -- DTS-MA will be a welcome addition to my PS3. Looking forward to it. Last edited by skrill; 03-17-2008 at 06:07 PM. |

Come on guys
![]() I think Unreal is just tired of the job "a minima" done by some publishers on their releases. Catalog is one thing (as seen by Fox, with Mpeg2 on BD25, /shrug), even if I don't like it, but new releases of films longer than 2h on BD25, with only DD, it's just unbelievable... The end of the dual HD DVD + BR encode will, hopefully, put an end to this kind of things (where the same encode used leads to this). On BR, and given that the PS3 (by far the most largely present player) can decode it, it seemed to me that TrueHD should have been the HD standard (with a DD mandatory track for folks like me who have older receivers), and DTS-HD and HD-MA being on "deluxe" editions ![]() But some editors push PCM, while others push HD-MA. /shrug. Now with the PS3 being (soon ?) able to decode HD-MA, maybe we will find either PCM or HDMA on -all- releases ? |

People need to keep their movie tastes to themselves. Whether a movie is universally regarded as a great movie does not make it a must own. There are plenty of best pictures that I have seen once and need never see it again. Some people like to be entertained, others depressed, others to laugh, others to cry. We all watch movies for different reasons. There is not one movie that everyone will say is great. Please find one. It doesn't exist.

![]() Even though dissapointing, I can accept the lack of extras on a Blu-Ray release (documentaries, deleted scenes, commentaries etc...) but I will NEVER accept anything but PRISTINE video and audio quality from a Blu-Ray... and YES, that includes a lossless soundtrack on ALL of my purchases. Even if a release is a clear prelude to a double dip edition ![]() if the vanilla release includes pristine audio and video and I care for the movie sufficiently... it will probably get a purchase from me. Example: "I Robot" --> http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/613/irobot.html ![]() |

All the second-gen HD DVD players can do this, as can the 360 add-on (third-gen transcode to DD -- which is why they should be avoided if you have an older receiver). As am not sure about BR players. |

DTS-MA is backwards compatible to DTS. I.e., if you can't decode MA -- the player will decode a "core" track that is basically just regular DTS.

If your equipment doesn't support dts-ma then the core dts track is extracted instead. |

Just a general question since I'm stupid when it comes to HD audio.
My receiver won't do anything with HDMI audio other than passthrough. It does have analog 7.1 inputs however. While I know the PS3 can't utilize them, I was thinking about picking up a 2.0 player that does analog 7.1 output. What is the audio capacity for analog 7.1 connections? Depending on the answer, I may just opt for a new receiver when this patch is released instead. |

The receiver is an Onkyo HTR550. I haven't even begun to look at players... I suppose my ultimate choice will come down to whether a new player is cheaper than a new receiver. |
