The astros are nearly 500 right now. They gonna win 81 games?
I forgot you were a Tigers fan

But we'll see. The season is a long one, so it never matters what your team looks like on paper.

BTW.. Tigers had a winning record against every division but the AL West. So saying it's only because of the central is wrong.

It's not even on paper. They've proved the last two years they are the best team in the central. All they did this offseason was improve. Cut dead weight with Delmon Young, getting back V-Mart and adding Torii Hunter. Then their rotation is top three in the game of baseball.

I'm sorry, the Tigers are still the best team in the division by far.

AL East: Blue Jays -- I'm buying into the hype ... for now
AL Central: Tigers -- Still in a weak division and the best team in it
AL West: Angels -- Like the adds of Hammy, plus Trout for a year. Rotation and pen scares me some

Wild Card(s) - Rangers, Rays

NL East: Nationals -- One of the best rotations and pens in the game.
NL Central: Reds -- Great pen, good staff, great offense
NL West: Giants -- Dodgers had all those players that last half of last year and still didn't make the playoffs. I'm not buying into them.

Wildcard(s)-- Dodgers, Braves

I agree. The Yankees can't keep their place in the East forever and Toronto is coming in strong. The O's and Rays are gonna give them a beating too.

I've never liked the Tigers but there the only team that has a rounded team.

Really pulling for the A's to keep their minds together. They have tremendous chemistry and get better in the fall.

I'm going with the Rays on the wildcard.

I predict the same for the NL.

I'm still 50/50 on Hamilton helping the Angels vs. destroying the locker room with his absurd crap he loves to pull. "Oh, sorry I suck lately, my eyes are too blue".

I still fear he'll have an addiction crash though, nobody deserves that.

Guys this argument is redundant as a Tigers fan I concur with those saying the Tigers success is due to a weak division. Look at the Tigers record, now toss them into any other division in the league they are at best a 3rd seed.

The AL Central is a very weak division probably the weakest in all of Baseball and the Tigers for some odd reason can not seem to beat the weakest teams in the division for the life of them. The Indians and Royals own the Tigers when it counts.

The Tigers have the worst infield in the league and unless they commit to a 150 million dollar payroll in the next 2 years I wouldn't be shocked if they lose either JV or Miggy. They are hardened with some of the worst contracts in baseball, Sanchez and Fielder. They have not built the team properly through the Draft and have virtually no depth past what we see on the field daily. Hence why we were stuck with Inge Rayburn and Kelly for so many a season.

Lets also not forget for those that can see almost every Tigers game they were god awful to watch last year.

Awesome news...

Quote:
Told that it was an emotional scene when #Braves Gattis informed he made team. Fredi, Frank, Manno, Greg Walker were there.
Quote:
#Braves Gattis could split catching duties with Laird or possibly even catch more games than Laird, Fredi said.

I wish the Braves had a real owner. They have the richest owner of any MLB team, but he doesn't care about the team and doesn't put anymore than he needs to.

What would you pay for a great pitcher (think ~2.50 ERA, 20 wins, 10 losses) who misses an entire year from injury and comes back to a meh season (14-13, just south of 4 ERA)? If you're St Louis, you apparently give Adam Wainwright $97.5/5.

Here's the new most and least valuable MLB franchise according to Forbes. No real surprises. Market size matters more than anything else. Although some of these teams near the bottom are due to deadbeat owners like Loria and the Pirates ownership. Nobody ever calls the Steelers a "small market" team, yet people call the Pirates that.

http://www.forbes.com/mlb-valuations...n:desc_search:

Highest:
1. NY Yankees - $2.3 billion
2. LA Dodgers - $1.615 billion
3. Boston - $1.312 billion
4. Chicago Cubs - $1 billion
5. Philadelphia - $893 million
6. NY Mets - $811 million
7. San Francisco - $786 million
8. Texas - $764 million
9. LA Angels - $718 million
10. St. Louis - $716 million

Lowest:
30. Tampa Bay - $451 million
29. Kansas City - $457 million
28. Oakland - $468 million
27. Pittsburgh - $479 million
26. Miami - $520 million

Look at Wainwright's past track record and his second half of last season. He was great and all he does every year is win 15 games and post an ERA of 3 or lower. With the current pitching market 5 at 97 is a bargain. Look what anibal got. And he's no where near the pitcher Adam is.

Not super exciting, but I couldn't wait until June to see live baseball, so I grabbed a deal on Amazon Local and ScoreBig to get 2 lower level seats (face $45) for $17 total to a Royals/Indians game on April 28. But now all of my usually baseball friends in the area are busy.... one more shot and I've got an extra ticket to try to unload.

The Giants have extended Mgr Bruce Bochy and gm Brian Sabean through 2016 with an option for 2017, well deserved I must say...

More misery for the Mets:

Quote:
Two-time Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana has suffered a probable re-tear of the anterior capsule in his left shoulder and a repeat surgery is a "strong possibility," New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Thursday.
Many people believe this injury was caused by Santana staying in too long when he got the Mets first no-hitter last June, when Santana threw 134 pitches. This is the final guaranteed year of Santana's deal with the Mets and he is due $25.5 million plus another $5.5 million when the Mets decline his 2014 option. None of the money in the contract is insured.

Looks like both Gattis and Schafer will start the season on the 25-man roster. Gattis will split time with Laird, and could actually see more starts then Laird until McCann is healthy, with Laird being a late inning defensive replacement.

That would suck if going for one of the worst "no hitters" in mlb history finishes him off for good. It's when a no hitter isn't as impressive as it sounds.
