Default George Lucas on Star Wars and Indy Blu-ray

The British monthly movie magazine has an interview with George Lucas in this months issue and asks him about Star Wars and Indy in Hi-Def.
He says it will happen and things are more positive now the war is over but it's still early days and suggests 2 years to wait when more people are "on-board" with Hi-Def.

I realyy can't see it being 2 years.
We all know Blu-Ray will grow this year and even more over Christmas 2008. I think it's more likely to be sometime 2009 possibly towards October/November.

It will be 2 years or more, if Lucas has his way. Remember how long it took them release Star Wars and Indy on DVD?

yeah i'm sure we'll see Speilbergs' Jurassic Park, E.T & Jaws before Starwars/Indy.

I definitely believe it will be AT LEAST 2 years, possibly more... remember, on DVD, the Star Wars trilogy was one of the last major movies to be released.

Maxpower alluded to Indiana Jones later this year. I think we'll AT LEAST get the 4th film on Blu in 4Q.

As far as Star Wars...I think the most logical guess would be when the new TV series hits...

hopefully he's learned the lesson that people want the original versions instead of or as well as the special cuts.

hey maybe it's gonna take so long because he wants to make a new blu-ray edition. ugh.

I would hope at least indy 4 this year. From a marketing standopoint that would be a good time to go on and do 1-3 like they did with Rocky. Iknow - wishful thinking.

Like others have said, 2 years seems about right for Star Wars.

And while we may see Indiana Jones 4 this year, I could see them holding off on the others.

He is. For example, they're planning to replace the cruddy E1 puppet Yoda with the CGI version.

I like the idea of Star Wars Blus when the live action series premieres. I definitely see it being at least a 2 year wait though. When exactly is the show hoping to start?

Also do we think we'll get all 6 at once? Marketing wise, I think it would be best to put out the prequels first, put out the originals the year after, and put out a 6 pack 1 or 2 years after that.

I could definitely see us getting the prequels first though for several reasons.

1. Newer films, so they may look better in HD (considering 2 and 3 are all digital, this should be the case)
2. They tie in a bit more with the live action series IMO
3. They aren't as liked, but people will be dieing for a Star Wars fix on Blu so they will buy them for sure. Releasing them after the original 3 would probably result slightly reduced sales numbers.

The original Indy is so huge though that it doesn't really need to tie into anything to get big numbers.

Along these same lines though, I really hope they give us season 1 and 2 on Blu this year to tie into the new movie. Different studios though, so who knows.

That would be an absolute blasphemy. Frank Oz won an Oscar for his creation. Here is hoping that won't happen.

George Lucas would make more money if release the prequels first along with a Boxset with all Six films. That way everyone who didn’t care for the prequels would have no choice but to buy the box set if they want IV-VI now.

The E1 puppet. Not the OT puppet.

The E1 puppet, even though it was made from the original, didn't look right. Hence why it's being changed.

I actually can live with that because

1) That puppet looked terrible

2) That movie was terrible

I enjoyed the movie quite a lot myself. It works great as a 'Set-Up' film (much like A New Hope, but more so) to establish the nature of the Universe. How the the Senate works and the Jedi Council. And establishing all of the characters. So they didn't have to do as much set-up and explaining in the following movies.

Oh, that one. Yeah, I guess I should have paid attention to "E1". Oops. Well, in that case Lucas might as well remake the entire new trilogy because they were all bad, along with the E1 Yoda puppet.
