Default Am I missing something?

To repley to the post you would be better off setting the PS3 to 720p. I have installed several Panasonic plasmas and they look alot better set to there native resolution. The scaler in the tv is good but not so good that one can not tell a difference between 1080i being converted over to 720p.

Now from what I have seen the PS3 does do 720p blu-ray play back. And if it did not it would not make any sense. One over half of Sonys displays only did 720p native. I have connected PS3s to 720p tvs thrown in blu-rays and the tv stated that it got a 720p input.

The whole 720p issuse is with games and then it is the fault of the tv maker. Not so long ago tvs only took in 720p or 1080i over component video. So makers went as far as to have a 480p input and a spearate 1080i/720p input. The 720p problem comes into play when playing a 720p game on a 1080i only set. The PS3 will only output 480p, it will not upconvert the game to 1080i. It has no bearing on movie playback at all. And it only affects tvs that where not build to handle 720p in.

Should Sony have thought about this when making the PS3 yes, is it their fault no. When tv manufactures where making 720p or 1080i in only sets some retailers complained and said it was a dumb idea. But greed and the need to beat the price of the other sets won out. I feel sorry for these early adopters that got burned by this. But education is the key.

Know if I am wrong let me know and provide a link. (not to a forum post but to a current site and good source) I have found that ppl will site someone elses opions as fact. I can not tell you the number of ppl I have caught talking bad about blu-rays and PS3 that have never owned or used one.
