Yeah Sheldon Cooper makes the show work, probably why he seems to have the most solo scenes and be the alpha male of their clique even if he's the hardest one to get along with.

I agree with the camera/line aspect (just like in the last episode with the Jacky Chan movies and he could not grasp what Penny was bringing to the party) But I don't think he is the Alpha male of the group. I think that is Leonard, I just think a lot of times they let him get his way since it is simpler then getting into an argument.

I really like Jim Parsons. He sure does play the part good. He's so funny. I don't think the show could make it without him.

THE BIG BANG THEORY (8/7c)
Sheldon and Penny are thrown for a loop when Leonard is offered an exciting job opportunity overseas.

To me it's the ensemble that makes the show work, not Sheldon.

In fact, when it turns in to "The Sheldon Show" it tends to be my least favorite episodes. Examples are when Sheldon tries to "fix" Leonard's lie and you ended up with the cousin intervention and Sheldon's Virtual presence episode. I won't even watch these episodes on Blu-Ray, I skip them.

Jim Parsons is fantastic and is my favorite actor on the show, but Sheldon needs to be part of the group, and not the focus. I've heard it referred to as the Steve Erkel syndrome.

The last episode was really good too. Guess I disagree with the poster above about Sheldon, while the ensemble is also fantastic, Sheldon is definitely my favourite character on the show.

Her line with the potatoe and the pacemaker felt forced...we all know
Penny is not that stupid. So the joke didn't really work.

Penny goes back and forth from being that stupid to being normal intelligence.

I assume it's from different writers.

I think her as an artist felt that the lines made her character look way dumber than she was and she just forced the lines and it showed.
I agree that the lines were too much, they could have gone w/ other 'dumb blonde' jokes instead.

I feel like they don't know what to do with Penny anymore. I miss the earlier seasons when she butted heads with Sheldon and she was really sassy. Now they've made her a stereotypical dumb blonde and only seems to be there so Amy can worship her.

The problem is they pushed her and Leonard so much the first few seasons now are afraid to take the next logical step with the characters. The episode where she didnt want to move in with Leonard i thought really could have been a nice building point. Penny or Bernadette ending up pregnant would be a fantastic twist. They really do need to do something more before the program gets stale.

I don't know. The last few episodes weren't all that great. This season started out slow, but it then started to pick up, and now it's going downhill again.
