You guys are lucky. In my countless visits to various Goodwills and flea markets over the years, I've seen a grand total of three blu-rays for sale (and I bought two of them!).
Pawn shops around here are always a let down. The one closest to me has only one blu-ray (Ghostbusters) and they keep it in a glass case and ask $10 for it. Another location has mostly ex-Blockbuster rentals and sells them 3 for $20. I asked the guy behind the counter if he could go lower, so he offered to do 5 for $30. $6 for ex-rentals that were probably bought for $4 or less? I passed. In my entire BD collection, the average is less than $6 a disc -- and more than half of those were purchased brand new. |

Blu-ray Samurai

![]() ![]() $5 each (all combos and all sealed except Return To Nim's Island and Jurassic Park which were used) ![]() Grabbed an extra Argo to trade for another newer title. Slips were dented a little but for the price I can't complain. |

I went to this pawn shop yesterday and found The Hunger games/Christmas Carol with their slips for $5 each, didn't bite, had a huge line. Decided to go back today, and they sold the aforementioned movies

![]() also be sure to check the back, a lot of rental copies have retail looking fronts. If there's no real special features, it's a rental. You don't want those, they are full of future regret feels Last edited by kojmuffin; 05-05-2013 at 11:42 PM. |

I had to go to 3 pawn shops, but finally settled down to what may be my go to shop.
They had Sealed Zero Dark Thirty with Slip for $8.00 which I bought. The only other movie he had that was a recent release was Killing Them Softly, however he mentioned it watched it. The shop keeper does a somewhat questionable thing though. He watches the movies. The sticker on the top of the blu-ray case is unsealed, yet manages to get out the blu-ray from the bottom. He still sells it "new" at $8.00. |

Picked up Argo, and Dark Knight Rises with slips for $5 a piece. To the above poster, pawn shops are tricky. There are a few that are consistently bad, then some that are bad, but sometimes decent, and usual "good" shops with sometimes squat. All depends really. Just go with low expectations, and it'll be fun. If not you'll just be hoping, and most likely be disappointed

Thanks for replying Kojmuffin. To respond to your reply. My expectations for pawn shop were relevantly low.
My first pawnshop had lots of Blu-ray's from Blockbusters 4 for $20 a couple years back and Dollar Tree's $1 Blu-rays. My second pawnshop had literally no Blu-rays. You seem to have experience with pawn shop purchases Kojmuffin, and I have two questions. I know my questions may vary pawn shop to pawn shop, but I'd appreciate if you could answer the best of your abilities. 1. How often or what date should a person go to a pawn shop if they are looking for new releases? 2. Am I able to try to haggle down the price of blu-ray's from .50-$1.00? By the way, I'd like it if you clarify you usage of "squat". I'm a little confused by it. Here's the sentence for context. "usual "good" shops with sometimes squat." |
