To make a long story short, I don't think this is proof that theaters are on the way out, rather proof that they're going to stay despite lowered attendence.
that is since 2003, and plus with the rise of the ticket prices. that is why they used the "an all time high comment". its just to show confidence. think about it.
For example what if you live in a country where you see everyday how many 1000s of people were laid off, and on a daily basis if not then weekly this alone could makes a lot of people lose confidence in the system and worried and keep investors from spending money which in turn results in the economy weakening. that is the same mentality of theatrical business. unless confidence is used, more products that appeals to the audiance, people will stay away from spending money going to movies. but like you said, and I agree with you movie theatres are not on the way out. and I don't see it happening until maybe the next 30,000 years, when people adopt something else other than theatres or that type of business becomes illegal. which is funny. DID YOU KNOW THERE IS NOT A SINGLE THEATRE IN SAUDI ARABIA BECAUSE IT IS ILLEGAL. THE PEOPLE THERE COMPARE THAT KIND OF BUSINESS TO PROSTITUTION. i am very confused as to why. but oh well.
