Actually, along with the train, the part that prob cost the most was they Built a FIVE MILE Round track so they wouldn't have to keep setting up to film scenes with the train on the track/going back to the start, etc.

How much did it cost to BUILD A FIVE MILE TRACK?
[Show spoiler](<--- not sure but I believe this question was in a memo sent to Gore V., Jerry B. during Production from Disney )

See my post above buddy - Yea, he custom built the trains, which I'm sure were Also quite Expensive. But also building a Five Mile track along with it?

I think this will end up doing fairly well you will have a lot of folks check this out because its the Lone Ranger and remember watching the original television version.

There is nothing going against it other than a animated film for a 4th of July weekend that usually has a blockbuster (SciFi/Superhero) release during that weekend.

I'm not predicting complete flop like most people, but your reasoning is wrong. Almost no one is going to see this out of nostalgia for the old series. Most people who ever really watched that are the old folks who don't go to the theater anymore.
The people that are going to see this are Depp fans or fans of summer blockbusters in general.

I think it will be moderatly successful like Dark Shadows was. Depp has a built in audience.

I'm one of those 'old timers' that grew up with The Lone Ranger on TV the first time around. I just hope they don't make a stupid movie, I can live with an update of sorts. I belong to a western forum and I made the observation that for $250 million the Coen Bros., who made True Grit for $35 million and made it a success, could make six or seven westerns that I am sure would find an audience. I also recently watched Return of a Man Called Horse and saw that the shaman in that film wore a crow on his head. No one even mentioned that then or now.

let me clarify, I did not mean to sound disparaging to "old folks". I was just observing that people who watched Lone Ranger on TV are now an older generation that traditionally does not attend movies nearly as much as younger people.

You're lucky--The FIRST time I ever saw Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels in an entire episode was on Instant Netflix, and it was one month before Starz pulled all their Western reruns off the channel.

The stars and producers are rather generously assuming "Everyone already knows this stuff by now," but then, if they did, there wouldn't be a point in making a movie about it, WOULD there?

I had no interest in this but the trailers have got me considering it. Looks to offer something unusual and fun.

And RANGO was a terrific movie. If it's got half that film's spirit and humour, it'll be decent.

it will make money because Depp is in it but I saw the preview for it before Man of Steel and it looks like a bad movie. maybe the actual movie is better but I think if Depp wasn't in it, we would have another John Carter.

Opening against Despicable Me 2 isn't going to help. I have no desire to see Despicable Me 2, but family audiences gobbled the first one up in droves.

Plus, it was interesting that the first was actually...good. It was humorous, touching and serious in a perfect balance, and was probably the biggest animation surprise of its year.

You're right, The Lone Ranger has some struggles ahead.

Tell that to 'The Tourist' and 'Dark Shadows'. Depp isn't always a pull.

At least they actually built that train track for the movie, and didn't add it in with cgi and the same with the train as well. That all being added in with cgi would have cost a whole lot more then what its production budget is thought to be by some meaning $250 million. It would have been like what Pirates 3's production budget was which was an estimated $300 million.

What difference does that make. Some people at Disney are still getting the chair for overproducing this picture.

Wasn't the reason this thing got delayed was the fact that it was bugeted at 250 million, Disney wanted it down to 200 million, and once that happened it was greenlit, but in the end it actually ended up costing 250 million?????

Not sure about spirit, but it must have, it's got have the weird-western-town jokes recycled straight out of the movie. (Right down to the heroes first entering the town by rushing through the water main.)

You have to remember, $250 million is the figure that Disney have released -- and studios aren't often forthcoming with the real costs. This could have ended up costing even more than that, which means 2 things: 1) it's going to be even harder to make a profit and 2) it's seriously shortening Gore Verbinski's directing gigs after this (since he's had massive, inflated budgets on two of his projects).

Very true. Didn't Pirates 3 cost about $300 million at the time? Though with that film you could see what the money went into production-wise, something which I am more skeptical about with this film.

I think they could've easily done this film for about $150 million with tthe right direction and script. Gore is a good director, but he's got to get his act together budget and production wise.
