I love the Necromonicon case, but the version that came in that case isnt the "THX Edition"

Just picked this up, and I have the THX DVD version as well. Maybe this weekend I'll check them both out back-to-back. In either case, I read the reviews beforehand and mainly got it for the PCM5.1 audio. Hope it sounds better than the DVD!

I saw that this was on sale and I am a huge fan. This would pair nicely with my HD DVD version of Army of Darkness (which along with Serenity were the 1st two HD DVDs I ever purchased).

I love ED:II and AoD -- but the original ED is a total skip for me.

I will probably grab this one since I don't have the THX version (all I have is a crummy old DVD-R that someone made for me).

However the "THX Edition" DVD version is the best of the bunch and actually looks better than the Blu-ray in many sections, but not all. In the darker scenes with little detail the Blu-ray looks superior.

Also the compression on the Blu-ray is very strange with gradients having a GIF like dithering in the image, whihc I havent seen in any other Blu-ray.

So if you DONT have the older "THX" DVD the Blu-ray is a definite step up from the more recent DVDs.
If you DO have the THX DVD edition, save your money as the Blu-ray isnt much better (maybe a little inferior)
I have the region 4 DVD with a white background which I'm not sure is a THX or not:

Since I am a huge fan of the Evil Dead series, I will definitely buy this Blu-ray as soon as possible, partly because I want it as a collector, partly because it has a commentary and other special features (which my DVD doesn't have) and partly because I'd be interested to see it in High Definition, even if it looks like the characters have been cut and pasted.

Thanks guys!

Damn, I only just realised the ED II: DBD Blu-ray has only been released in Region 1. Does anyone know when (or if) it will be released in Region 4?

In Blu terms, there is region A, B, and C.

I'm pretty sure ED II is region free.

How do you tell, is it in small print on the disc/packaging somewhere? I can check mine...

if you look at the data side of the disk (not the label side) on the inner circle you will see one ring with a number on a SL and two on a DL

Thanks for that tip, you are correct mine is 50GB then, but when inserted into my pc drive the data size on the disc is only 24.3GB, strange that they used a 50GB when it only needed a 25GB

Thanks

EVIL DEAD II is one of my all-time favs. I've seen it hundreds of times and I own way too many editions on DVD. I purchased the Blu-Ray when it first came out and thought the video quality was the best it's ever looked. The real difference is the audio - whoa! With a more dynamic sound, it was like watching the movie for the first time.

I definitely recommend it. It's part of the B2G1 sale at Amazon.

don't know, but what are you looking at? is it all the content or just the movie, even though GiB should be used sometimes GiB (2^30) and GB are used and they denote different stuff and 24.3GiB~26.1GB

Why does everybody always ask if Blu-rays are better than DVD? Do BD's exist that are actually worse than their DVD counterparts? Since they come from an identical, or better, master, it seems like it would be impossible for a Blu-ray to look worse than its DVD counterpart.
Totally agree with you. How could it possibly be worse? Great movie, big fan of the movie forever and a day. It is worth every penny.

My bottom line is: The blu-ray looks better than every other copy out there, but falls way short of what it could or should look like. So, my rule for buying it would be this:

If you don't own a DVD copy at all, buy it (no brainer). If you own the THX DVD only, buy it. The blu-ray has a better transfer. If you own the latex BOTD version with the screaming eye, hold off. The transfers are the same, the blu-ray looks barely better than the DVD if you have a good upconverting player, and the blu-ray packaging isn't anywhere near as cool.
