Apparently yes, according to Amazon UK (if you scroll down).

That's the UK release which is distributed by Warner Bros, just like HBO is here in Australia. As they're done by WB they're always region free as WB does not region code their discs.

Although a lot of US HBO titles are region free a couple have been A or A/B locked. I suspect it is region free but until someone confirms I wouldn't take it as gospel based on something from another country. My copy should be here in about a week and if someone hasn't confirmed it by that time I will most definitely check the region coding on all discs.

$34.99 was supposed to be for the DVD version. That's what the prices were listed on the new release display in front of the checkouts in my store. If they gave it to you for that, you got a nice $5 bonus.

I tested all 4 Blu-ray discs and they all work on my region B PS3 but the DVD's are region 1 locked.

Is it just me, or does the first episode look really "off"?
The review makes no mention of that.

I believe you'll find it was filmed on Super 16mm film as opposed to digitally shot like the rest of the season. It'll have a grittier, grainier and somewhat softer appearance than the rest of the season. It's technically sound though.

^ Yes, I did some searching and you are of course correct.

Still, it would have been nice if the review had mentioned that.

Just watched the first episode of the second season. I had heard that Sorkin was going to try to make it more politically even between parties but this episode had none of the bite of last season. Too much time devoted to whatever this season-wide story is going to be and on releationships. Major disappointment.

Kinda disappointing to hear. I skipped the premier because too many other things were on, I'll watch the repeat in an hour or so.

I always thought it was a weird concept to begin with. Almost like "The Larry Sanders Show" but they could atleast make up some of the stories involving celebrities, not everything had to be based around an event that's kinda of already outdated by the time the show airs. I mean from what I understand the season premier has something to do with reporting on the Romney campaign. Ugh.

So I guess what I'm saying is, if the relationships with the character's are weak, this show has a real problem because they can't re-write the past which a lot of the show relies on.

I completely disagree. I think that, at least going off of the first episode of the second season, THE NEWSROOM is finally the show I hoped it would be when it premiered.

I bit. One of the most captivating shows I've ever seen. I have constant access via HBO Go, but I have to own it.

That's what's holding me back. But I did just bite on House of Cards for $12.99 even though I have Netflix streaming.

I admit, I did have some additional outside motivation. I've been trying to get my parents to watch the show, and they want to, but neither of them care enough to take the time to learn how to use HBO Go on the TV. So, having the Blu-Ray will help speed the process along.

...And HBO announced today the show will end after it's 3rd Season. After seeing luke warm critical reception and overall low ratings.

Yeah, folks have been discussing it over in the TV forum thread since the news broke yesterday. Sad to see it go.
