What they should do is research some new upscaling algorithms, which have vastly improved in recent years (esp. since The Next Doctor).

They should include the FULL versions of Confidential (there'll be enough space them being in SD!) as well as Tardisodes, Deleted Scenes...

Plus! From The Green Death DVD: Doctor Forever – The Unquiet Dead. In this unique interview, new series creator Russell T Davies and then BBC Controller of Drama, Jane Tranter, talk about the genesis of Doctor Who’s rebirth on television.

And as a nice surprise goodie how about Spearhead from Space Blu-ray (wishful thinking)

And I'd imagine that there'd be some sort of action figures of Docs 9, 10 and 11 too!

Lossless audio, lack of DVD compression artefacts, a good solid algorithm used and new extras (and a little bit lower price point) would make this a must buy for me!

I'm thinking (and hoping) that these seasons can/will look much better than the current dvd's. Properly upscaled by the studio and much less compression than the dvd's can do wonders for them. On my 51" tv these dvd's look horrendous. I'm excited about this set for sure!! I honestly thought they would never do them....

Zero interest from me... I don't need a toy/trinket... and seasons 1-4 were shot on SD videotape. I don't like even the idea that this might start a trend of releasing upconverts on Blu-ray... I'm perfectly happy with the DVDs.

For the record... I owned The Next Doctor on DVD before it came out as an upconvert in the Blu-ray specials set with the other actual HD specials.

The difference was barely noticeable... between the DVD and the upconvert on Blu-ray... so I literally see no reason to throw out my DVDs and buy upconverted Blu-rays.

truthfully I never got into Doctor Who until Matt Smith started so no real draw here for me. Tried to with the other guys but they just didn't work for me - Eccleston looks all bad-ass until he opens his mouth. watched some with Tennant and they were alright but just couldn't get into those episodes.

You should try watching the classic series, there's plenty of good stuff to be seen there.

This...which is why I really hope they aren't adding lots of cool new bonus features or anything.

I really hope this BEGINS a trend of releasing SD content upscaled from master tapes along with with lossless sound. Classic television shot on tape would still look worlds better presented on Blu-ray as opposed to highly compressed DVD with lossy sound. As I've been saying for some time now, all content once available on DVd will find it's way to Blu-ray even All in the Family.

According to a source over at Gallifrey Base, Series 1-4 should be released individually next year.

they need to release ALL of the complete DW confidential edisodes . put them in SD on a Blu-ray to save money and space. Should be able to get all of the eps on 1 or 2 Blu-ray disks . that would be glorious.

I'll only consider this if 5-7 are presented as the complete series sets with all 6 discs for each. I already have 5 and 6, but I could always sell them. While I like the packaging they used for the complete series sets, it looks like these will just be regular cases, and that would help with my ever shrinking shelf space.

As for seasons 1-4 not being worth it, compression will make them worth it. They may not look as good as 5-7, but at least they'll look the cleanest they ever have in terms of compression artifacts and such.

Definitely agree about the unexpurgated Confidential's and the podcast commentaries as well.

Obviously this is pre-ordered though will keep an eye on the UK as it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't up to a $100.00's cheaper.

Totally agree with killowertz re- the compression issue

Damn. That's expensive. I already have 1-4 on region 2 DVD and 5&6 on BD. There will have to be a super deal for me to bite.

Sopranos is a very bad example. Seasons 1 through 3 (i think) looked absolutely awful on Blu-Ray, especially compared to just upscaling the DVD. In fact, I recall reading a review where the reviewer recommended just watching an upscaled DVD.

I thought so, too, but then I added it all up, and it's actually cheaper than buying everything on DVD now. Right now, just DVD and not even Blu-Ray, and without the remote, everything would cost in the ballpark of $360, which may or may not have even included the specials. This is $314, which sounds like a lot at first, but does it still? Perhaps not. This is also not intended for those who already have the series'. Don't forget it comes with the sonic screwdriver remote, which you can buy separately for $100, making this actually a really great deal.

Seasons 2 and 3 of Sopranos have not been released on BD....only seasons 1 and both parts of season 6...
