It's not meaningless and it also helps beat down the HDDVD fanboys' psychological well-being.

I will be buying Payback, Enter The Dragon and King Arthur on the 21st. I usually don't buy online until the 5th of the month, but I will do anything to help put an end to HD DVD.

It's meaningless because the likelihood is that those buying on the 21st would buy those discs anyway, just not all at once. So what happens is the April 21st figures are seen as being orchestrated by fanatics rather than those sales happening over a longer period and being seen as genuine purchases.

Additionally, all stunts like these end up doing is giving ammunition to those who want evidence that sales figures are not real and are being influenced by a minority of the consumership.

...which is exactly what the HD-DVD lobby have been exposed as orchestrating at Amazon recently.

I think Sony is kind of complacent right now with just 'being ahead of HD-DVD' and not trying to take over as the next format..

if anything...I hope BD sales drop some so they start feeling the need to come out with more popular titles...

I like quite a few BD titles...but I am pretty much already caught up with every purchase I need to make..excluding pre-orders...

I don't really have anything to add to my collection until there's a new release...

It doesn't have to be that way. I think this is indirectly asking for an additional purchase and not something you would have lumped together at one time. Prehaps one could buy a title they are on the fence about. For me, that would be Planet Earth.

That line has already been crossed. Blu-ray not being seen as having genuine purchases. I woud say the 3:1 disc sales over HD DVD so far this year would have already proved that to how wants to see it.

Sales figures ARE real if people purchase discs...period. Yes, the numbers can be influenced by a minority of the consumership. Otherwise, what's the point?

"A lie told a million times becomes the truth." I want to help take away anything HD DVD could potentially use to sucker someone into buying a HD DVD player. Helping to correct this Amazon chart is a good way to do this. The added bonus is that this numbers will be counted on the Neilsen Videoscan numbers for that week!

We would appreciate one additional purchase from you on April 21, if your budget allows for it. Thanks!

It is a fact that Blu-ray is winning without group purchases. Thanks for the support!

C'mon guys, this is gonna be huge. Order from Amazon if possible. Spread this all over the net in all the Blu-ray/PS3 forums. This is a great opportunity to get PS3 owners who haven't purchased any BD's to get a taste of Blu-ray and start buying titles on a regular basis.

It would be so funny if Sony started sending an electronic message to every Sony PS3 machine connected to the Internet that said

“The month of May is BLU-RAY movie special month. Purchase 3 Sony Pictures BLU-RAY movies and get a 4th BLU-Ray movie free.”

The ability to send electronic emails to every PS3 owner about BLU-RAY specials from Amazon and other companies would help sale BLU-RAY movies. If only 10% of the millions of PS3 owners purchased one or two BLU-Ray movies that’s several hundred thousand titles sold.

I would jump on that in a heartbeat!

April 21st is just a date everyone has agreed upon. Thank you for your effort.

Thank you....A voice of reason in this chaotic, juvenile fanboyism (by both camps).

To others - The BDA (and HD DVD camp for that matter as well) doesn't want to see spikes, they want to see steady, consistent sales across the board. Sure, they expect certain titles to have a "spiking effect" on sales (CR/POTC I&II), but on the whole BD and HD DVD are still a niche. You add their sales of players and titles together and you're still just scratching 1% of the surface that SD DVD holds right now.

BTW, of all these legions of PS3 owners, how many of them actually have their consoles hooked up to large HDTVs (50" or greater) or PJ/screen and how many of them have a 5.1 surround sound (or greater) setups? Because if you come down to it, if they're gaming on a 27" CRT SD display using the TV's speakers, I really can't see the benefit for them, and I don't necessarily see them running out again in the future to pay upwards of $10-$20 more for the BD version of a film when there is no perceptible advantages. JMHO.....

That being said, I've got over 10 BD/HD DVD titles pre-ordered between now and May 22nd. If something catches my eye, I'll order it because I want it, not because I'm trying to help some sophomoric "movement" that will have little true impact on this format "tussle".

The group buy only benefits Amazon. For a short time, the Top 200 list on Amazon will reflect that. It's only good for a short-term bragging rights.

To me, it doesn't matter when you do it this week. The reason is simple. There are more PS3s out there. If the group buy from the PS3 owners causes a spike, it's not a normal spike but a huge one. So it doesn't matter if you buy today or Satuday, so long as you do.

Default Anyone buying blu-rays tomorrow (4/21) to counter HD-DVD buy-a-thon?

Because of the "buy-a-thon" blu-ray supporters are organizing to counter the one done by HD-DVD supporters about a week ago? I figure I'll finally get around to buying "The Prestige" tomorrow.
