Question Blu-ray buy-a-thon - october 16th?

What do you think, should me make one on the 16th?

HD-DVD fanboys a making one on the 16th, which is also the release date for Transformers on HD-DVD.

The 16th seems like a great day to do it. The 2nd and 9th have soooo many good titles coming out such as bram stoker's dracula, dawn of the dead, the day after tomorrow, day of the dead, fantastic four: Rise of the silver surfer, master and commander, 28 days/week later, edward scissorhands, the fly, from hell, reign over me, robocop, surf's up, hollow man, the invisible, and the reaping.... We Blu supporters need to hold off buying until the 16th and then let lose on the all the great movies from the pass two weeks!!!!!!!! Bring on Oct. 16th buy-athon

I think it would be a great idea to have one on October 16th to offset Transformers, considering that should be a pretty big day for HD-DVD (unfortunately).

There are a few movies that come out in those first two weeks of October that would be worth getting on the 16th.

I was planning on holding off on the Starz/Anchor Bay releases until that week. Really it doesn't matter what DAY you buy them on, just as long as you buy the same sales week it is released. Plus there are some Fox titles that come out before that too.

Well oddly enough, Surf's Up is at the top of my list for this one. If I have the money I'll probably pick up Edward Scissorhands, The Day After Tomorrow, Evil Dead II, Galapagos, and....like 3 or 4 others...dammit I'm going to be broke forever.

Honestly who cares if the losing format has it's day for a little while. Even the sun shines on a dog's ass once in a while. We have a steady stream of quality titles starting from the end of this month til December. Can the HD-DVD fanboys claim the same?

honestly i think the date when spidey is released should be the buy-a-thon for bluray. FIRST OFF. save up enough money to buy all the titles you want. some of us should go ahead and buy 2 to 3 HDDVD films to return them later of the day you purchased them, and use a reason as such "inferior product, don't want anything to do with it. SHOW ME THE BD SECTION." or even return them a week later. this should show the HDDVD, that we are in this business seriously, and make a statement about it unified."hddvd stands for.....its not even worth my time and energy."

I don't think we should put off buying. These buy-a-thons are supposed to be for titles that we would not pick up normally.

If everybody holds off until the 16th of October on ALL their purchases how are the numbers going to look up until then?

Why? So you give Paramount your money for the SD DVD, then in 18 months you give Paramount MORE money for the Blu-ray?

Anyone that does this is getting played by Paramount.

I agree with slapper. We shouldn't stop buying new releases to save them for the 16th. Buy them when they come out to show the production companies we want their titles. If there is a title that is out already that you missed, then by all means pick it up on the 16th. We should fight our own fight and not worry so much about what the red team is planning.

Point for Slapper...Paramount will see no money from me anytime soon. The quicker we bring death to hd-dvd the better. Then when Paramount comes crawling back to us with thier tail between thier legs we still give them no money unless thier releases are top notch all across the board. We will show them what we do to back-stabing greedy lil pieces of crap!

I think one day is enough. I have already seen plenty of posts where people are holding off buying bds becuase of the current buy-a-thon. Which was suppose to be a day to buy an extra bd not to hold off on ones you were going to purchase anyway. Forcasters are going to look at the average trend of sales for a product, and a one day outliers, will not have much effect. Still I think if we are going to do it we should do it big, and on September 18th only. I think we should each hit local retaliers that day, the 18th, as they will be a bigger deciding factor as opposed to the internet. Anyway with so many great releases coming out, I don't think are sales will be too shotty that day.
