If someone told me before the season we'd be up by 10 games after 107 games played I would have laughed. I really did think the Braves would be similar to last year - a likely wild card team, but just not quite good enough to finish ahead of Washington.
What's scary is that the Braves would be up 15 games if BJ Upton had decided to show up this season and they didn't have so many injuries.
Red Sox acquired RHP Jake Peavy from the White Sox and RHP Brayan Villarreal from the Tigers in a three-team deal; White Sox acquired OF Avisail Garcia from the Tigers and RHP Francellis Montas, RHP Jeffrey Wendelken and shortstop Cleuluis Rondon from the Red Sox; Tigers acquired SS Jose Iglesias from the Red Sox.
One can argue about how much good Peavy will really do the Red Sox, but the price is right. Iglesias was never going to keep hitting like this, and while he should make it as a long-term shortstop, he's not likely to be an above average regular. Peavy, who is making $14.5 million this year and next, was 8-4 with a 4.28 ERA and a 76/17 K/BB ratio in 80 IP for the White Sox. He missed time earlier in the year with a broken rib. His biggest problem has been the home run ball -- he's allowed 14 -- but switching from U.S. Cellular to Fenway will help there, so his fantasy value should get a slight boost.

As a Rangers fan part of me says it'd be ok to go 0-147 against the rest of the league as long as we go 15-0 against the Angels. Preferably with as many Angels' blown saves as possible.

If you've been feeling like a kid trying to sleep on Christmas Eve, the wait for Biogenesis suspensions is almost over: MLB has informed the players' union whom it intends to suspend and for how long. And if reports are to be believed, everyone plans to take a deal—except Alex Rodriguez.
As first reported by the Daily News, Major League Baseball officials met with union leaders in Manhattan yesterday to formally notify them of the forthcoming suspensions. Just how many players will be disciplined is still unknown—the Daily News counts eight, Yahoo "upward of a dozen."
Yahoo reports that the "vast majority" of the implicated group, which includes Nelson Cruz, Jhonny Peralta, and Everth Cabrera, do not plan on appealing their bans. In exchange they're expected to receive suspensions of 50 games (or a little more—say, the rest of the 2013 season), which is allowable without a failed test under the "non-analytical positives" section of MLB's drug policy.
The Associated Press's sources say both MLB and the union are trying to reach as many agreements as possible to head off embarrassing, and potentially CBA-shattering grievance hearings. The drug policy indicates that suspensions become effective on the third business day after punishments are handed down, so that makes Friday the most likely day for a public announcement.
But by all accounts, there's one player who has no intention of making a deal. Alex Rodriguez's lawyer said Monday he plans to fight any suspension, and it could get ugly. Because MLB is going after Rodriguez for interfering with its investigation as well as for PED use, it is expected to punish him not under the drug policy, but under a catch-all "best interests of baseball" clause in the CBA. If so, Rodriguez would remain suspended while an appeal is heard by baseball's independent arbiter. Beyond that, his recourse could be to a federal court, or if the union decides to go to bat for Rodriguez, it could force the re-opening of negotiations on the CBA itself. The remaining $100 million or so Rodriguez's contract isn't the only thing at stake; the long labor peace that baseball is so proud of could be in danger as well.

CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Tigers are still talking to the Giants about left-hander Javier Lopez.
The Tigers have been very active over the past two days, but they might not be done yet. Lopez, 36, has a 1.42 ERA and 27/10 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings and could be a valuable piece for a contender. He is due to become a free agent this winter.

Does anyone have any interest in Lincecum? I haven't heard any rumors at all about him being traded.
Not sure, I remember a few weeks ago there was a rumor that the Tigers wanted him out of the bullpen, kind of like how we used him in the playoffs, which was quite effective... Guess we'll find out by the end of today
