Some BD titles do not have English SDH subtitles, just English, which is why he's demanding for CC since CC MUST be supported. Since the PS3 also plays DVDs and DVDs have CC, enabling CC would make it a better player.

HDMI video does not carry CC signal that the HDTV can then decode whereas standard cable or broadcast signal delivered via component do. The PS3 can overcome this by reading the CC titles within the video signal and rendering it to the video before delivering it to the HDTV via HDMI.
