Some blu-ray discs, however, are said to carry a closed caption stream that only displays through standard definition connections. Many HDTVs allow the end–user to customize the captions, including the ability to remove the black band.
You might get CC through a standard definition display, but the fact is that it doesn't work on an HDTV, and there's nothing Sony can do to fix that. As the above quote says, a SDH subtitle is the method used to support the deaf, so ask the studios to include them. They're supported by the PS3, absolutely.
