Red Viper was cast a few days ago. http://winteriscoming.net/2013/06/red-viper-cast/ Definitely looking forward to his fight with The Mountain.
![]() Though these casting announcements are just make it painfully clear how long we've got till next season. ![]() Also, looks like we've got Neil Marshall coming back next season for an episode (though not yet officially confirmed). If so, I presume he'll be directing the battle at the Wall. Last edited by Aragorn the Elfstone; 07-07-2013 at 07:06 AM. |

In a recent blog post, Game of Thrones' author George R.R. Martin has given the world a glimpse of the Iron Throne he sees in his head, and it looks something like this:
![]() The image was painted by French artist Marc Simonetti, and is made, as Martin describes, from "thousands of swords." "It's a throne made by blacksmiths hammering together half-melted, broken, twisted swords, wrenched from the hands of dead men or yielded up by defeated foe." So what does Martin think of HBO's version of The Iron Throne? It's good, he reckons, but not quite good enough. "The HBO throne has become iconic. And well it might. It's a terrific design, and it has served the show very well...everyone knows it. I love it. I have all those replicas right here, sitting on my shelves. And yet, and yet... it's still not right. It's not the Iron Throne I see when I'm working on (the forthcoming sixth Game of Thrones novel) The Winds of Winter. It's not the Iron Throne I want my readers to see. The way the throne is described in the books... HUGE, hulking, black and twisted, with the steep iron stairs in front, the high seat from which the king looks DOWN on everyone in the court... my throne is a hunched beast looming over the throne room, ugly and asymmetric... http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/07/...al-iron-throne |

Just fantastic that we're going to start meeting the characters from Dorne. As for Ellaria Sand, I remember the character's name, but for the life of me, I can't remember her place in ASOS. Time for a reread.
![]() It's fantastic to see so many Rome actors in this show. ![]() |

She heads to King's Landing with The Red Viper (she's his paramour, mother of the youngest Sand Snakes), attends the PW, witnesses the trial by combat and goes back to Dorne.

I like this photo. Unfortunately the wounds are inconsistent with what happened on the show so we probably won't be getting this

Now THIS is what I've been waiting for...
The World of Ice and Fire: The Official History of Westeros and The World of A Game of Thrones: If the past is prologue, then George R. R. Martin’s masterwork—the most inventive and entertaining fantasy saga of our time—warrants one hell of an introduction. At long last, it has arrived with The World of Ice and Fire. This lavishly illustrated volume is a comprehensive history of the Seven Kingdoms, providing vividly constructed accounts of the epic battles, bitter rivalries, and daring rebellions that lead to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO’s Game of Thrones. In a collaboration that’s been years in the making, Martin has teamed with Elio M. García, Jr., and Linda Antonsson, the founders of the renowned fan site Westeros.org—perhaps the only people who know this world almost as well as its visionary creator. Collected here is all the accumulated knowledge, scholarly speculation, and inherited folk tales of maesters and septons, maegi and singers. It is a chronicle which stretches from the Dawn Age to the Age of Heroes; from the Coming of the First Men to the arrival of Aegon the Conqueror; from Aegon’s establishment of the Iron Throne to Robert’s Rebellion and the fall of the Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen, which has set into motion the “present-day” struggles of the Starks, Lannisters, Baratheons, and Targaryens. The definitive companion piece to George R. R. Martin’s dazzlingly conceived universe, The World of Ice and Fire is indeed proof that the pen is mightier than a storm of swords. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product?ASIN=0553805444 The "Release Date" for this Hardcover is October 28th 2014 ![]() |
