With the way they Lit the sets, for Me, nothing seemed Dull or Simplistic. Clean, yes, as everything was bright/shiny, lights on & gauges blinking, which was Enough. We didn't need Further Enhancing or any optical effects. The scenes, actors, action, all accomplished this on their own.

We are and have, my friend.

I guess it's just all down to tastes. There's no right or wrong here.

True.

Well, since he won't be doing ST3 this time, the film Should have a decidedly Different look to it.

While I would love for the films to look the same, if they are in fact going to stick to the five year mission plot line and have a major incident in there, they could jump several years in time again and age everything up so the new look won't be completely oft-putting.

I hope in the next movie, the five year mission is over, and they come back and they are older with experience.

That could work too. It would also serve as a good conduit of changing the look of the films.

‘Star Trek 3′ Could Be Directed By Joe Cornish

Briefly: Rumblings started a few months ago but now Deadline has made it official. Joe Cornish, director of Attack the Block and co-writer of Ant-Man, is now at the top of Paramount’s list to direct Star Trek 3. J.J. Abrams is producing, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are writing and they’re hopeful for a Summer 2014 shoot aimed at a potential Summer 2016 release. Rupert Wyatt and Jon M. Chu had previously be mentioned as possibilities. Nothing is official yet, so we’ll have more as it breaks.

I would prefer a bigger name, or someone with a longer directing list.

I'm surprised by all the hesitation...Cornish is an excellent director, with 'Attack the Block' being one of the best films of the last few years. Such an awesomely entertaining flick. If he can bring what he brought to that film here, we're golden. He'll make an awesome 'Trek' film.

Agreed. I like the choice, if he officially becomes the director.

While obviously movies like this are extremely large, it wouldn't be the first time a director has stepped into something of this scale and come up with great results (Brad Bird/Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, Joss Whedon/The Avengers, Marc Webb/The Amazing Spider-Man).

In any event, he will have the whole Abrams organization behind him---so he won't be out there alone on a big project.

He can concentrate on the directing and he will get help with much of the other production stuff.

A big name director is not gonna take over a franchise with an entire machine like Abrams in charge anyway.
The same way Marvel gets directors to direct but they are in charge of the overall project franchise.

I think you're jumping quickly to conclusions. Whether or not Attack the Block was good (I have yet to see it), it may simply be too big of a project/too much trust put in a guy like Cornish. I'd like to see Aronofsky try sci-fi, for instance...

not being a fan of the new movies, I can't really think of anything good to say about another Trek film being made since it is still the same people behind the scenes but I will say this - don't be too worried about a relatively unknown director being chosen. When Nick Meyer was chosen for Star Trek 2, he has relatively little experience as well but he did an excellent job with Wrath of Khan(still the best of any of the Trek films) and he did make a huge impression on the franchise so not being a well known or experienced director doesn't mean he isn't able to get it done. however, given that JJ's company is still producing, I wouldn't expect him to make any major changes in how things are done.

If he brings the energy, invention, tension and humour from Attack The Block to Star Trek then everybody should be happy
