If this true, I will not be purchasing any of these blu-rays. Didn't Bill Hunt say that Warner was going to stop putting DD on their blu-ray releases and start putting next audio on them?

Maybe they figure on lower-end titles (can't think of anyway else to say it - titles the majority of the public won't be clamoring to own) it's not worth the cost? Loss? etc.

WB is seeking the demise of Blu-ray by releasing BDs with lossy audio formats.

In any case, Fool's Gold was a horribly made movie and I wouldn't purchase it anyway.

this is dissappointing... but they are still releasing DUDs until the end of May, so manybe after May, they will only release in lossless. THat's the only thing I can think of.

I have no problem with WB in general. Just how they thread their 'None Blockbuster' catalog title.

But remember , we are going to have at least another 3 month of HD DVD encode , disc are made well before they are released and the last HD DVD come May 31..

Most all sites get their info from usually one place and then gets rehashed everywhere. Look what everyone was saying about Be Kind Rewind release date. You need one source to jack it up for everyone. I am not saying that Warner is going to add a lossless track but you just never know until closer to release date.

Doesn't Blu-ray have contracts stipulating a minimum quality for audio and video?

I don't care if it's Micheal Clayton or Children of a Lesser God ( Paramount and not announced on Blu ray) I want a lossless track on the disk. I did not pay 700 dollars for a PS3 and over 1 thousand dollars on a reciver to get a lower bitrate than DTS tracks on DVD I mean, Damn.

I can't imagine how anyone would be surprised by this. Warner has been at (or very near) the bottom of the list when it comes to HD quality releases. Even their PQ is sub-par, often soft/fuzzy or lacking fine detail. As far as audio is concerned, it's as if they threw away the originals after they did their theatrical encodes. Still baffles me that the Ocean's gift set says "HD Picture * HD Sound" when all the films in the set sport a 640 kbps Dolby Digital track...

ALL titles should have lossless audio (unless the original elements are, for some reason, unavailable (destroyed, whatever)).

Yes, DD5.1. As unfortunate as it may seem, that is the minimum requirement.

You have to also remember when Warner was supporting both formats, MANY HD DVD supporters over at AVS claimed they were more than happy with just DD+ (which essentially becomes DD on Blu-ray). Surely, Warner read this quite a bit. It might take some time to get it through the thick skulls of the people at Warner who make such decisions. As we know, Blu-ray does in fact have higher standards/specs and that lossless should be the standard as demanded by many Blu-ray consumers.

Fortunately for us, the studios who were Blu-ray exclusive from the beginning "got it" in terms of lossless (for the most part). The problem has primarily been with former red backing studios - who need to be schooled in "optimization" for Blu-ray.

Damn straight, because they are missing a DD True HD track and are not the Director's Cuts (hello you had them on DVD with DTS) is why I have not updated Lethal Weapon or Lethal Weapon 2.

5.1 is not required. Only Dolby Digital or PCM

Robin Hood for example will have a 1.0 mono track. On HD DVD it was DD+ 1.0

Perhaps they are already setting up for double dips? Seems to me they just aren't putting effort into releases like The Bucket List and Fool's Gold. The big releases like Natural Born Killers and 10,000 BC all have TrueHD tracks. At any rate, Warner, along with Paramount, has always been the studio that goes cheap on the audio. Nothing has changed even with the war over.
