Copyright protection is very important if you're a studio and you want to protect your product.

I hate to seem bitter.. but it seems evertime any company has created a new protection form.. hackers have cracked it.

I would say it's only a matter of time, though it will be a sad day when hackers spoil HD movies for honest consumers.

essential if the company wants its movies protected from piracey its gonna side with the format that can keep its content "hack free".

Well, if movie theaters want to spin this as a "we're going to punish everyone for what the hackers/crackers do," then I'd say they're in for a collective, "WHO CARES!!!???" from the general public.

BR and HD-DVD are having a hard enough time getting people to see the worth in switching over without crying/whining like that.

I think it was set for April/May, May 8, I think, but they delayed it because of BD+. I was pretty upset when I first saw the release date removed from the info on this and other sites.

yeah Fox is just lazy, I mean they did such a piss-poor job on the X-Files releases, I'm still kicking myself for paying what I did for the first two seasons that had worse picture quality then the freakin VHS versions did. They need to step up to the plate and start releasing more Blu-ray movies I agree.

DVD are being copied, so why don't they stop releasing DVD's? I am sure they will figure out how to copy BD, so basically they are just wasting time while losing money. They should just release movies already.

Because SD DVDs are not 1080p copies of the original and why would a company make the same mistake twice????

I agree, I live in Kuwait and the only reason I don't buy Pirated DVD's is because the quaility is so bad.

I can usually get a movie a week or so after it hits the theater.

I don't think we should take part in the exaggeration of losses from piracy. Not that I support piracy, but the losses are minimal compared to profits. Lost money is lost money. No one likes to lose ANY money, but agreeing that piracy is a super huge deal and that it affects people's "bread and butter" is pretty ridiculous. Once piracy reaches China levels, then we can talk.

It's really not up to you to decide how much loss is acceptable. That falls to the owners of the content. As often happens, there is a certain % of losers that cause grief for everyone and the full blame lies at their feet.

If piracy in the States or whereever reaches the Chinese level, it's game over. To get that far means many things including lack of enforcement, public apathy of IP, industrial failure and job loss. You don't want even go NEAR that level.

At this point HD discs are a strategic offering. Only a few HD discs are likely to be making any significant profit. So, from the HD disc perspective, any piracy may be very significant.

The piracy may cause some titles to go into the red.
