Default Flags of our Fathers Blu-ray, Paramount goes AVC!

Great news, I have been complaining about Paramount only doing MPEG2 and DD5.1 encodes. Now I am only having one thing to complain about, PCM please...

Freakin awesome. Good going paramount and THANK YOU for keeping the lowest bitrate EQUAL to hd-dvd's MAX bitrate! Just slap a PCM track on it and you've got yourself a winner!

AVC/DD or MPEG-2/LPCM. Which would you pick if you had to choose one?

Too bad the overseas release from Warner Brothers (outside USA) will probably not use AVC (maybe VC-1).

Oh well, at least it's still gonna be released on BD-50 which is good enough

This movie is released by Dreamworks.
And Letters from Iwo Jima is Warner?

Warner is always, region free.

But I dunno about Dreamworks, does Dreamworks release its titles, as Region free, of do they region-lock it?

Both Clint Eastwood films are from Dreamworks.

However, in the United States, it's released by Paramount.

Outside USA (all overseas teritorries), it's released by Warner Brothers.

That's why I said in my post that it may use VC-1 instead of MPEG-4 AVC. I don't mind that personally...as long as they use a BD-50 disc on both flicks.

This is kinda off the subject, but I finally saw Pearl Harbor on Blu-Ray and it was amazing. Especially the fighting scenes. WOW

I don't understand the BD-50 logic.. unless I'm missing something when it comes to Warner releasing Dreamworks movies? Do they fill up the disk rather than giving a 30GB low bitrate encode with DD5.1 sound?

Is this OOP? It looks like it was a Paramount/Dreamworks movie. I see Amazon has it. I liked the movie, is the Blu-Ray any good?

its pretty good, it has IMO a 4 out of 5 for PQ and 4/5 for AQ, the scene in the beginning when the ships are heading to the island and they let loose on the big cannons, the bass hits good and hard. the only draw back is its only a 640 dolby track, so if your system supports lossless audio it will leave a little to be desired, but i liked the movie and think this BD did the movie justice. i did hear that their was a release in europe somewhere that had pcm added on the soundtrack, so if that's a must you might look for that one.

thanks
anthony

I heard the sound quality is not as good as the HD DVD version but the PQ is alright. I was planning on getting this but they are asking $37 for it.

US and UK have the same extras, US is 640kbs DD lossy whereas UK has PCM Uncompressed and 640kbs DD audio.
