Seems like a lot of inactive links and a story that makes a correction. Basically, MS is saying that they will support the format if it wins. I think they are hedging their bets by not introducing an HD-DVD drive into an XBox.

The only page that opened fr me was the first link, and that's already been posted on here. MS has said that if BD wins they will "offer a solution." This is by no means an official statement that they will have BD drives, just saying that they will support it if it wins out. If you can tell me what it says on the other forums, I'd like to know, but as I said, they won't open properly for me. None of the stories come up.

Default Microsoft to Unpimpz HD DVD?

Microsoft to Unpimpz HD DVD?

http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messa...80/352701.html

Quote:
Article by Rachel Konrad 06/04/07 The Associated Press

There is Bad news on the horizon for X-Box 360's HD-DVD Drive owners as Peter Moore told Rachel Konrad on a recent trip to Japan while entering negotiations with Pioneer. Microsoft's Xbox corporate VP of worldwide marketing and publishing Peter Moore told Japanese site ITmedia that the imminent release of the Blu-ray Xbox 360 peripheral could appear for the system before Christmas. Moore admitted that Microsoft's opinion on HD-DVD as the Next Generation format winner is bleak with the worst-case scenario being a repeat of the Beta vs.VHS war of the '80s. Moore also added Microsoft is giving the consumers the most cutting edge technology out there and In this moment in time Blu-Ray is that.

As per usual Peter Moore couldn't help but have a go at Sony and the PS3 "However, he suggested that whatever the outcome of the HD-DVD/Blu-ray war, the Xbox 360 can adopt the dominant format since its uses an external drive. He also suggested that it's a weak point for PlayStation 3, saying Sony's system is stuck with only 1 format. Microsoft announced the Blu-Ray peripheral will connect to the Xbox 360 using one of the system's USB ports. Moore once again confirmed that the Blu Ray add-on for the Xbox 360 is only for watching movies, and there are currently no plans to use it for games, nor are there plans to release an Xbox 360 with an internal Blu Ray drive.
Damn. That's cold...that's almost Blu-cold if there is truth to it.

I'd like to get Pioneer's perspective on this, to help back up the story, if Pioneer is the maker of the drive, if this is true. This would be bigger than the false Fuh-Yuan story.

If Microsoft shafts HD-DUD, I think it will have a bigger impact than if Warner or Paramount dropped support for the following reasons:
  • Microsoft is bankrolling the whole farce of this format war being a battle between 2 equals (If they pulled their advertising money for HD DVD, quit subsidizing the VC-1 encodes and in general stopped promoting the viral marketing campaign)
  • It would demoralize the XBOX fanboys who I think are a big constituency of the HD DUD user base
  • Paramount may cave earlier than I thought because of loss of incentives and the bad future prospects of selling their content on the weaker format

After that, I could see Warner and/or Universal giving up on HD DUD. Soon after Toshiba would surrender. Yay!

What's with the article being written a month from now? We need a lot more confirmation before we start breathing hard...

HMMMM? If true, that is a huge story. It is possible that the story was leaked and was meant to be released a month from now. I don't trust the AP for much of anything, but if quoted correctly...wow!

Yes, I equate this story to the mythical wet dream of cheap HD DVD players at Wal-mart, but entertaining to say the least.

Anyhow, in terms of the date, I believe in other countries, their format is day/month/year, which would make this article in April I believe.

uuuummmm hello, the PS3 could also make use of one of it's USB ports for an external HD DVD drive. DUH! Not that we will have to worry about this....

If you're talking about the one dated 06/04/2007, that's the day/month/year.

Yes they work there because the URL name is shorten while the actual URL is the full one. When you copy over the URLs it copies the shorten name, not the actual URL so we cant open it because its not complete... its only the first 20-30 symbols (shorten).
