Winter is Coming has discovered that former League Of Gentlemen actor Mark Gatiss will be playing the role of banker, Tycho Nestoris in season four of HBO's Game Of Thrones. Fans have been speculating as to who Gatiss would be playing since his casting was announced back in July, but I don't think anyone guessed that it'd be Nestoris -- a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos, notorious for funding the enemies of those who fail to repay their loans. The character was actually introduced already at this point in Martin's source novels, and it's likely they have plans to feature him fairly prominently in the show if an actor the caliber of Gatiss has been cast.

I myself really enjoyed the later books. AFFC is slower than the preceding books, yes, but I really loved all the character development. The book solidified Jaime as one of my top 3 favorite characters. I also actually really liked the split narrative of the two books. I doubt I'd have felt the same if I had to wait years, like some people did, for the books to come out. But reading straight through, it reminded me of the split narrative of The Two Towers and The Return of the King books - where you're left to wonder what the other characters are up to and that creates a sense of suspense. When Davos is mentioned as having been killed in AFFC, I was really worried for him. Things like that had me turning the pages really fast to get to the other end of the story (ADWD).
I recognize, though, that I'm in a bit of a minority. I will be interested to see how the material is adapted in the show. Seems like they're already bringing some of it into the fourth season. Last edited by Aragorn the Elfstone; 01-18-2014 at 12:21 AM. |

I wouldn't be surprised at all if everything going forward including the 4th season is much more blurred from the books. The 4th season with some threads of book 4. Then 5-7 season being a blend of books 4 and 5.

Yeah, AFFC was slow for me, but I still enjoyed it though. I need to get back into reading ADWD now that the show is coming back. I don't think there will be much from the 5th book in this season, but you never know. At least the story concerning Theon will probably be book 5 material.
Also, I've missed this thread and not having to tiptoe around stuff because no book talk is really allowed in the other thread ![]() |

I was hoping that would be the final shot of the first episode of the season or at least not the very end of the season as that would be a hell of a long wait.

![]() I hope they have a scene from the book I always found great - the part with Arya warging, seeing through the eyes of her wolf, swimming out into the river towards a body, and turning it over and seeing her dead mother floating. Heartbreaking scene. Hope they include it, and also help establish that the other kids can warg as well. However, I doubt it will happen. |

I suppose this a question to which I already know the answer
![]() ![]() My own family has been wanting this to happen for so long, and they're still going to be totally blindsided when it occurs two episodes in. After the preview footage, they keep asking "why is Tyrion in chains?! What's going on?" ![]() |
