Winter is Coming has discovered that former League Of Gentlemen actor Mark Gatiss will be playing the role of banker, Tycho Nestoris in season four of HBO's Game Of Thrones. Fans have been speculating as to who Gatiss would be playing since his casting was announced back in July, but I don't think anyone guessed that it'd be Nestoris -- a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos, notorious for funding the enemies of those who fail to repay their loans. The character was actually introduced already at this point in Martin's source novels, and it's likely they have plans to feature him fairly prominently in the show if an actor the caliber of Gatiss has been cast.

Don't think that's from the fight with the RV or training for it, some other pics have leaked of this scene and it looks like part of another fight altogether....

Rupert Vansittart has been cast as Yohn Royce

We’re two months into filming as of yesterday, and there’s finally news from the Vale. According to his CV, English actor Rupert Vansittart has been cast as Lord Yohn Royce on Game of Thrones.

Vansittart will be playing the head of House Royce, bannermen of House Arryn and loyal to Lady Lysa. The character is nicknamed “Bronze Yohn” in the books because of his bronze, rune-inscribed armor. Yohn is the father of Ser Waymar Royce, the young Night’s Watchman who was killed by a White Walker in the first fifteen minutes of Game of Thrones‘ premiere episode.

A familiar face on British television, the actor has guested on Doctor Who, Mr. Bean, Midsomer Murders, Any Human Heart and most recently, Foyle’s War. He portrayed Mr. Hurst in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, and appeared as Charles, Lord Ashfordly over several seasons on the police drama Heartbeat. Vansittart’s film work includes The Iron Lady, Austenland, Braveheart, The Remains of the Day, Cutthroat Island, and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Books 4 and 5 are tough, but it's worth it. It doesn't get great until the last half of ADOD.

I myself really enjoyed the later books. AFFC is slower than the preceding books, yes, but I really loved all the character development. The book solidified Jaime as one of my top 3 favorite characters. I also actually really liked the split narrative of the two books. I doubt I'd have felt the same if I had to wait years, like some people did, for the books to come out. But reading straight through, it reminded me of the split narrative of The Two Towers and The Return of the King books - where you're left to wonder what the other characters are up to and that creates a sense of suspense. When Davos is mentioned as having been killed in AFFC, I was really worried for him. Things like that had me turning the pages really fast to get to the other end of the story (ADWD).

I recognize, though, that I'm in a bit of a minority. I will be interested to see how the material is adapted in the show. Seems like they're already bringing some of it into the fourth season.

I mostly agree with this. While I'm excited to see the new season of the tv show, I'm frothing at the mouth for The Winds of Winter.

Have you seen the obviously planned confrontation with GrrM and the guys who wrote that "Write and Write Faster" song?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if everything going forward including the 4th season is much more blurred from the books. The 4th season with some threads of book 4. Then 5-7 season being a blend of books 4 and 5.

Yeah, AFFC was slow for me, but I still enjoyed it though. I need to get back into reading ADWD now that the show is coming back. I don't think there will be much from the 5th book in this season, but you never know. At least the story concerning Theon will probably be book 5 material.

Also, I've missed this thread and not having to tiptoe around stuff because no book talk is really allowed in the other thread

I can only imagine the reactions if the last shot of the season is of Lady Stoneheart. People will lose their minds.

I was hoping that would be the final shot of the first episode of the season or at least not the very end of the season as that would be a hell of a long wait.

Well, that's the way the book ended, so I would expect the show to follow in this case, mostly because Lady Stoneheart has no story in Season 4. Plus, there is probably no bigger shocking image they could end on then the resurrection. That certainly floored me in the books and left me crazy to read the next book. Unfortunately, I read SoS the day it came out and had to wait years for the next book.

I hope they have a scene from the book I always found great - the part with Arya warging, seeing through the eyes of her wolf, swimming out into the river towards a body, and turning it over and seeing her dead mother floating. Heartbreaking scene. Hope they include it, and also help establish that the other kids can warg as well. However, I doubt it will happen.

I suppose this a question to which I already know the answer , but is anyone else just dying to have family & friends watch the Purple Wedding this season?

My own family has been wanting this to happen for so long, and they're still going to be totally blindsided when it occurs two episodes in. After the preview footage, they keep asking "why is Tyrion in chains?! What's going on?" It's going to be so delicious.
