The 24fps feature is only useful if your tv refreshes at a multiple of 24. Some new tv's have a refresh rate of 120Hz (new Bravias) and there are just a few that refresh at 96Hz. Most tv's refresh at 60Hz(including yours and mine) so the 24fps option will do nothing for you. It only accepts the 24fps signal and then converts it back to 60fps so your tv can display it properly.

Final word: leave the 24fps off unless you are certain your tv refreshes at a multiple of 24 - e.g. 48Hz, 72Hz, 96Hz, 120Hz.

I read that the V3000 series of sony refreshed at 48hz when this option is turned on.

From AVSForum:

Quote
“The KDL-46V3000's HDMI port also accepted 1080p input at 24 Hz (1080p24), and Sony claimed the TV automatically displays this video format using a 48 Hz refresh rate (24 Hz x 2 - an even multiple) that eliminates the shaking/wobbling effect known as judder that is caused when 24p material is converted for display on a typical (60 Hz refresh rate) HDTV—the telecine process. Viewing examinations using 24p video material confirmed the KDL-46V3000 did reduce judder producing admirably smooth panning shots, however, the reduced refresh rate (48 Hz) did introduce additional flicker into some vertically orientated details as the camera panned.”

If you look at my sig, I have that same tv and it does not refresh at 48Hz when using a 24fps signal. Otherwise it would have eliminated the judder. With 24fps enabled, it looked almost the same, if not worse since there was another layer of processing added.

Edit: I just read that too and it said that the Cinemotion option had to be turned to auto. I'm not sure what mine is set to, perhaps I had it off when I tried the first time. I'll have to go home and mess with the display options and see.

By supporting it, he means that it will accept it and then convert it back to 60 fps before displaying it on your tv.

My best guess is that it's a marketing gimmick. Look here for a list of tv's that do display 24fps material properly. I'm not sure how up to date this list is, but it may help.

24fps tv's
