Formatting for Linux and recovering content

I want to format my PS3 HDD and add Linux. Can I back up my game save data, and games I've downloaded from the PS3 store?

And i thought we answered your questions, lol. Well, i know you can back up your save files to an external HDD using the PS3s backup setting and as for ur DL games, you simply re-download them at no extra cost but at the expense of ur time from what i hear.

The backup utility also archives any downloaded content as well. One does not have to re-download the content.
