Yes, it's an English language film. The Blu-ray 3D is French and possibly Region B-locked. No North American release announced yet.

So only the 2D disc is in English and are they English subtitles on the 3D Blu ?

I wouldn't know for sure. Maybe someone who buys the French release can help you out in the future. Here's what the Amazon page lists:

Quote:
Audio : Français, Anglais
Audio description : Français
Sous-titres : Français
Sous-titres pour sourds et malentendants : Français

I read the book and I'm a huge Jean Pierre jeunet fan but I didn't really like this movie- It wasn't bad, it just felt like it was missing something- It really was filmed for the 3d medium though, perfectly framed shots that actually allowed the viewer to appreciate the 3d in each frame. Where Hugo started out with that ridiculous tracking shot that didn't allow your eyes to orient to the 3D, this film doesn't do that and allows the viewer the proper time to acclimate to 3D, very wise choice by Jeunet.

Is it safe to assume that the French release will definitely NOT have any forced subtitles?

Would you mind letting us know if you could whether this is 100% English friendly release? I'm just a bit concerned about the possibility of French subs being hardcoded onto either the 2D or 3D movie. Many thanks mate.

Just finished watching The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet from the French Blu-ray 3D.
The bad news is that the disc is Region B-locked and is only available from Europe from Amazon.fr. (France).

The good news is that the 3D version has the original English DTS HD MA 5.1 sound track as one of the choices and NO forced subtitles as an option.

Impressive 3D: The native-3D cinematography is intensely STRONG throughout and has now become my #1 choice for an example of the best for 3D realism available as an experience.

Feel it is an injustice for fellow U.S. enthusiasts to miss out on such a 3D experience where only a region-free player can provide opportunity.

Sounds great! Thanks for your thoughts. I hope to see this movie soon so I will try and import the 3D edition. I appreciate your checking it out and sharing this news. I noticed you accidentally linked to the 2D edition so here's the proper link: http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00G...A1X6FK5RDHNB96

That way others can import the right version. Thanks again!

Thanks for the review and the region confirmation! This movie needs U.S. distribution.

That's absurd.

Thank you so much for your comments Paul, that's great news. I will definitely order this now. So glad there's no forced French subs etc.

X-Men has wonderful consistent 3D roundness but this movie tops even that. It's the current reigning king of 3D as far as I am concerned.
Excellent I'm glad I ordered it. Should be here in a day or 2. Thanks for the heads up.

Saw this last night... I'll echo what others have said, great, immersive 3D! The director also uses a lot of pop-out 3D effects to tell the story.

Watched with my kids aged 6 and 9, and was somewhat uncomfortable with the running away message, f**k/s**t and other language, and some of the scenes I wouldn't want kids to think they can ape. Anyway, parents should proceed with caution for younger kids. I think as long as you explain it's just a movie so kids don't take the movie literally, it's fine.
