This is exactly that kind of movie for me. I watched it once on VOD and I think that was enough. I liked it, but if I bought the Blu-ray it would only gather dust on my shelf.

Yeah, unfortunately it's region B only. Sorry
![]() http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/blu-r...ac_blu-ray.htm I've had a region free player for years, so imports are never an issue. ![]() |

I enjoyed both films when they did the double screening at the HQ of the Toronto International Film Festival (Bell Lightbox).
What struck me as strange is that they showed the edited version of Vol. 1, as they don't normally show anything censored, but I guess the Magnolia releases of both films are all that they could get their hands on. The message was clear at the start which said "This is the edited and censored version of Lars Von Triers Nymphomaniac Vol 1, it has been released with the director's knowledge but not his consent" I was shocked to see that as graphic as it is, it could have been more explicit as the running time was 118 minutes but the uncut version was 145 minutes. Vol 2 was pretty much the same runtime as it would have been without additional cuts.. I like Von Triers films so I'll do the same and wait till Criterion gets their hands on it.. I wouldn't think Criterion has a chance. This is a Magnolia release and Melancholia was also, the only reason Criterion got Anti-Christ was because IFC films had the rights in the US and they have a working relationship with Criterion, also it's possibly Criterion didn't want it. They were offered Enter The Void and turned it down

Eh, saw this on VOD a few weeks ago and it's pretty difficult to watch in spaces. Not really something I ever want to see again. Too disturbing!
![]() I did enjoy Vol. 1 a lot more than Vol. 2. It's much funnier and not as rough to watch as V2 was. |

Breaking the films apart makes sense theatrically but I don't like that it's broken up really. I think the WHOLE story would have flowed better if I got to watch it all in one giant viewing. Instead, you sort of get to point your brain and emotions to the direction its going to eventually go... but then you break and rest and then VOL. 2 comes later and it's just jarring and feels coldly different than what proceeded. Dividing the film also puts too much space between when we switch actresses. I think one whole viewing would help tidy that gap up and seem more organic instead of like watching two different movies with two different characters.
