I'm well aware. I'm not going to keep going on about this though. Many companies that have "geek culture" products seek out the show to advertise for them. Just because it seems natural in the show does not mean it was not a product placement. Almost everything seen in a show is a form of product placement. When there is no payment, the logos are often partially covered up with a sticker or something. I may have worded my post wrong previously, and some may have been confused, but this is the last I am going to say on this now.

Clearly your definition of product placement and mine are different.

Yes they are different.
Here is wiki:
"Product placement, or embedded marketing,[1][2][3][4] is according to the European Union "any form of audiovisual commercial communication consisting of the inclusion of or reference to a product, a service or the trade mark thereof so that it is featured within a programme".[5] Product placement stands out as a marketing strategy because it is imperative to attach the utmost importance to "the context and environment within which the product is displayed or used" [6]".

IMO It doesn't need to be paid when they are from the same/partner companies. So saying it involves payment would be erroneous I believe.

If you don't think that whole SW episode was about product placement or whenever Sheldon wears the flash shirt and not superman or other more high grossing DC heroes then you are Truman.

Yes but in this case it does not make sense (the same way that it would not make sense to assume that the couch is product placement). IF one of them was drinking from a can of Pepsi (since I went with Coke in the last example) showing the logo there would be a good case to assume it was product placement. But since they are collectors and since the underlying theme of the episode was a take on SW day it does not make sense to jump to the conclusion and pretend it is a fact that it was all product placement. The issue is that there is nothing to support that claim. Someone could hate SW and so not like the episode because of their own bias, but it is in character for them to celebrate SWD and it makes sense for them to decorate for the occasion, in essence it would be like saying the Christmas tree in a Christmas episode is product placement to sell more Christmas trees.

Huh?

1) If WB that holds the money sais "You have to wear a Flash shirt to help with selling Flash" that would be considered payment since they hold the purse strings and can tighten them or not. But yes maybe them having more DC over Marvel might be something WB pushed for and so considered marketing to advertise their other products.

2) SW is owned by Disney and Disney competes with WB for our movie dollars also Disney owns ABC that competes with CBS for our TV viewing so why would WB or CBS tell the producers of BBT to market something from their competition and not be paid for it? (even if you want to assume that the Flash shirt is unpaid marketing)

One thing is hope the product creates dollars from free ad from a partner vs paying to place the product so as or people buy the merch. Companies love crossover ips. Both ip's make money and they don't have to ask, nor ask to get paid or pay to show.

Hmmm, maybe, but I doubt it. I can't imagine them changing up the cast again. They are just trying to stretch the show out now due to their being at least another 72 episodes to create beyond this season. They can't really move towards resolutions when they still have so much more content to create. I mean, that is A LOT. Still another 72 episodes of the show are guaranteed...that is longer than most shows get in a life time lol Not to mention the 159 episodes after this season. 231 total episodes at the very least. It is crazy to think how HIMYM and BBT were once small shows and each lasted over 200 episodes and took over pop culture

The way the press reports the show vs. common opinions held by fans is fascinating. I've read various press on the show where the Leonard/Penny relationship is described as a "fan favorite". Meanwhile, on this site and IMDB, to name a few, the relationship is commonly viewed as stale.

Heck, Leonard and Penny discussing
[Show spoiler]each's various marriage proposals
had me cringing.

Precisely.

It was not "product placement", LOL. Disney (owners of ABC) did not pay a competing network to feature anything Star Wars, haha. If anything, BBT benefited more from being able to promote it all week as a "Star Wars" themed episode than Star Wars got any additional hype from it (not that BBT needs any more hype itself as it's far and above the highest rated sitcom on television, and gets numbers that are unheard of today for network shows).

Star Wars is hot right now - and it's only going to get hotter for the foreseeable future. Star Wars fan sites are crapping bricks right now because they are upset that the Black Series 6" line SDCC exclusive was revealed in Entertainment Weekly of all places, and not one of the fan sites as usually would happen.

The backdrop of the entire show is geek culture - and part of that is the identification and reflection of it. And geek culture is all about merchandise. It drips out of every single episode in the background if you look for it - I often have fun spotting an item I own in the background on a shelf or in the comic store (I hate to say, but Howard and I have similar taste haha).

Loved the episode BTW - I am seeing Bob Newhart perform later this month and I'll be curious if he has any stories from the set. Kind of sad his character has passed on but I love that he could come back as a Force Ghost.

The engagement wasn't very climatic, but at least it was well-handled.
