Still... that's a good question. Antichrist was probably more disturbing. Surely. There's no humor in that film whereas Nymphomaniac is frequently hilarious. I also stand by the fact that the sex in this film is not erotic at all, in any way whatsoever. But unlike Antichrist, Nymphomaniac presents a tale without many morals which can at times feel a bit more disturbing than the stressful environment of AC.

I definitely feel that Charlotte Gainsbourg gives a greater performance as Jo.
not only does Gainsbourg give a great performance, but Uma Thurman's scene is probably the standout scene in the entire movie, some might say she's overacting and I don't want to give too much away, but it's an awkward, unsettling (and very memorable) scene in emotion.

so the extra scenes that were cut of the longer cut were more sex? As scoldsteve pointed out, yes what's in the film is graphic, but even if you were to say compare it to '9 Songs' that's far more explicit, how much more was there ??

I haven't watched my copy yet, but I'll check tonight when I get home.

I'm hoping the U.S. double feature is similar to this. If not, I may have to import.

Been reading some interesting articles on Trier's "director's cut" (in quotes, because I know that term has been disputed here)... Apparently, Trier still plans to distribute that version separately, later this year, and that this "short version" was just released first because it would be easier to sell. Sort of like Jackson waiting to release extended versions of all his Hobbit/ LoTR films, i guess? (Albeit with the added controversy of explicit sex that most markets would censor themselves anyway.)

Here's a good link explaining it, from a couple months back, with quotes from one of the film's producers: http://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/l...-nymphomaniac/

And here's another store site selling the Nordisk set suggesting it also includes "Lars von Trier Director's Cut, Part 1: 145 minutes:" http://www.imusic.dk/blu-ray/5708758...c-blu-ray-disc I don't suppose anyone's gotten that version and con confirm one way or the other?

Looks like these are the new covers for the single releases.

Does anyone know if Von Trier's 5.5 hour cut will be on here?

No it will not, this release is just the 2 individual volumes and a package containing both volumes. If/when the Director's Cut is released is still unknown

I like the simplicity of the individual release art. Really wish the combo with both films would change its artwork. Not a real fan with the entire cast on the cover.

Any chance this gets a Redbox release? Von Trier is a mixed bag for me, so I think I'll have to rent it somewhere first. Maybe one of the few mom and pop video stores will have a copy or two.

The Canadian Blu-ray will only be 1 disc with volumes 1 and 2 on it (and probably the same special features as the US version as usual, but I didn't ask). I've confirmed this by messaging Mongrel Media. That's too bad. I mean if you want to see it all at once without changing discs that's nice - but I'd imagine the quality is worse since the US version is 2 discs.

I'll probably wait it out and see if a director's cut does come out, if I don't order the Magnolia release.

Netflix=0% chance
I too am hoping my local video store gets a copy, but I'm not planning on it.

I don't think Magnolia puts UV's with their release.

One disc should have more than enough space to hold high quality versions of both volumes.

It seems we're the only ones getting it this way (other countries appear to have 2 disc sets) so being the only ones not getting 2 made it questionable to me.
