They've waited far too long for my money, sorry. No longer interested in geriatric GB's, especially without Egon. Don't care about seeing younger GBs, either. If this ever gets made, it'd have to be freaking phenomenal to get my green.

I was excited over the years for a possibility, but now with the passing on Ramis and the continued 'No' rumors from Murray, I don't see much need. If they try it, they might as well 're-boot' from scratch and recast.

I agree, give me Ghostbusters 2 on blu-ray and totally scrap any Ghostbusters 3 plans. It would be a horrible movie now.

But with Lord and miller rumored to get the directing gig, I'm all about it happening. I think they'd bring a fresh approach to the series. I mean, who thought anyone could make '21 Jump Street' work as a movie? But they did, and well. 'The LEGO Movie' and 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' too. They're a perfect fit for this. So if they direct, I'm all about the movie happening. I'd like to see Bill Hader, Chris Pratt, and Charlie Day dawn the proton packs...

I'd like to see Thomas Jane in the team for some reason.... He can handle action, acting and comedy. Don't even have to geek him out. It'll never happen, but everytime I see fantasy casting for Ghostbusters he's a name that just works for, me, for some reason. It's probably the Mist, that did it for me....

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing an animated movie instead. Would keep costs down, you could use voice actors to cover for those who are not there(Ramis, Murray) and being animated would open up what they could do as all they need to do is draw it. It just needs to be done right, no anime and overexagerated characters.

Seriously though, it's just too late. This movie should have come out in 1994 or thereabouts. We got that awful Evolution movie in 2001 as an apology for GBIII not happening.

I too, however, think that a Real Ghostbusters animated movie would be a good idea. Actual animation, not CG.

I think they need to let the idea of Ghostbusters III go. Ramis is gone, Reitman isn't going to direct, Murray doesn't want to do it. Having a bunch of new guys wouldn't be a "true" Ghostbusters III. The time has come and passed where we could get a real Ghostbusters III.

What they should do is do a spinoff that takes place in the same universe. But this time, use some of Aykroyd's original ideas.

According to Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis in the DVD Commentary, in Dan Aykroyd's original rough draft of the movie, the story was going to take place in the future and that there would be teams of Ghostbusters like there are paramedics and firefighters (thus explaining basing the Ghostbusters HQ in a firehouse). According to Reitman, such a film would cost "at least $300 million in 1984 dollars". So Harold Ramis was brought in to rewrite the script and bring it into modern times.

Originally, Ghostbusters also had "S.W.A.T. like" suits, so the new Ghostbusters would wear suits that are a blend between S.W.A.T. suits and the Ghostbusters uniforms.

They could make a really cool movie that takes place in modern times, with today's technology. Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II happened, and due to increased paranormal activity since the events in those movies, there's been a need for Ghostbusters outside of the original crew of four. This way, they can all be retired, and there's been dozens of Ghostbusters since we last saw the main four.

This new film would focus on new characters -- you really can't "remake" Ghostbusters and recast the roles. Stantz can be the veteran who oversees this team in a supervisor role. He's the bridge between the new film and the old two, without actually rebooting. Call it "Ghostbusters: (Subtitle)."

As a Ghostbusters fan, I'd be okay with that, as long as it was good. It's not Ghostbusters III -- there could never be a Ghostbusters III without any of the main four. And it's not a remake, which I think most fans would find unforgivable. It's just a new Ghostbusters movie. I think there's a lot of possibility there.

ETA: I consider the 2009 Ghostbusters game to be Ghostbusters III. This new film ("Ghostbusters: Subtitle") would be the 'fourth.'

Max Landis Writing ‘Ghostbusters 3′?

A new report claims that Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis is working on a new draft of Ghostbusters 3 with a three-week turnaround. According to Nikki Finke‘s sources, with that kind of turn around Landis is probably doing more of a polish than a completely new screenplay.

Here’s what Finke had to say:

Say what you will about Max Landis’ public persona, but the guy sure knows how to write a great script. Also notable, Max is (of course) the son of director John Landis, who was offered the original Ghostbusters (originally called Ghostsmashers) but turned it down. He’s also directed numerous classic films.

This news comes after Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) reportedly turned down the gig, and Zombieland director and Ant-Man runner-up Ruben Fleischer was mentioned as a potential helmer. Sony/Columbia distributed Fleischer’s Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less.

Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman recently talked about the script after the death of original Ghostbusters cast member Harold Ramis. Reitman had been set to direct the picture, but pulled back to a producing role after his friend passed:

Still waiting to see more from Max Landis before creating an idea around him, sure Chronicle was great, but that may have been a one off. His Frankenstein movie seems to have gone quiet, so here's hoping that one works out.

with Harold Ramis gone I think they should just let the "never reaching production" GB3 lay at rest...but if they do pursue it'd be nice if they CGI'd him as a ghost in the film

We already got GB3 it was the video game that came out in 2009. If they are going to do a GB movie they honestly should just reboot it with a new cast. No Ramis, Murray, Weaver, Reitman, Moranis all you have left is Ackroyd, Potts and Hudson and the last one isnt even a original Ghostbuster. Hell Annie Potts who played Jenine has not done anything relevant since Toy Story 2, or anything on screen since Dangerous Minds in 1996.

The only way I can see this working now is a new cast new story, and MAYBE Ackroyd giving the technology to a new group of scientists in an advisory roles since he would now be the dean or president of some major university. With all this time that has passed maybe Oscar is the head of the new Ghostbusters or something I don't know. At least maybe then you can get a cameo from Weaver and Murray.

Frankenstein, Me Him Her, American Ultra and Mr. Right come out next year. Working on things at Uni and Sony, and indies. GB3, sadly, no.

Nikki Finke has also removed her original story reporting Landis' involvement.
