I've gone through 4 since 2005, Sharp, Olivia and a Mitsubishi whose Samsung screen went out twice in 4 years. I have a 5th, an LG, with bad speakers. The service man for the Mitsubishi, who owned a multi company authorized repair shop in Atlanta told me he didn't know how the extended warranty companies were staying in business. He said that the issue is the part is either no longer made or so expensive it's not cost effective to fix. So I didn't even call for repair the second time the Mitsubishi broke or when the other toe went black screen. Leaves me with two Panasonic and the LG with the speaker issue. The LG is 6 years old, that's about how long my oldest has lasted, the Olivia.

All around me I see the same. I should know because every time a relatives or friends tv needs setting up they send for me. 7-8 years is the least I would expect out of a tv at present. I see no evidence to doubt that.
