NOT TRUE - The owners manual is not too clear on this but HDMI port 6 is for a wider range of sound. I am currently using this for my PS3 and it certaintly does send video thru this connection.

wide range of sound ?? Dont ask me !

Ok, maybe I misread the panel on back, I thought it said audio only. I am currently reading the manual as I had not prior to setup. So, as you own one and are using it, I definitely defer to you. In fact, I may switch my PS3 to this HDMI then as well, if you apparently get better sound.

I have the 5300ES and having 6 HDMI ports is a blessing, I'm using 4. I have an upscaling DVD player hooked to port 6 and can't tell a difference between that port or the others. They say it is optimized for audio maybe I should try my BD in that port. I also like having 3 zones, I have zone 2 on the porch and zone 3 in the garage. The only digital signal that gets passed to the zones is the DMPort. Every thing else is analog, so I hooked my Directv and cd players up with RCA along with fiber and/or hdmi so I can send it to the other zones when needed. The IR jacks in the back of the reciever are nice, I put a sensor on the back porch so I can control the receiver when outside and not have to go inside to change settings or volume.

Zone 3 requires an external amp, zone 2 only requires an external amp if you are running 7.1 if your are running 5.1 you can set the settings in the menu for the side speakers to be zone 2.

Hope this helps.

I have my PS3 connected via HDMI. I was stuck at home this morning and wanted to listen to the FM tuner while using the browser. Is there any way to do this?

On the primary zone the HDMI ports have priority. The only way to accomplish this through zone 2. I just tried to assign a different audio to a HDMI port and you can't do it, and likewise tried to assign video to the FM tuner and it won't do it.

I'm thinking it may have something to do with my rerunning the auto-calibration. I did that late last night and, maybe that affected the sound coming in as I tried recreating the scenario and now it seems to be ok.

Default STR-DA5300ES by Sony

I own this receiver and it is great. Packs a real punch and I haven't noticed any picture issues or anything out of the ordinary with it. If you pick one up you'll love it.

Owned SONY ES models for the past 12 yrs. Never been disappointed by their quality built and features. I still own the mother of all ES receivers, 777ES.
