can bd's be stored in regular cd and/or dvd cases?

I've had a closed cabinet with 70+% humidity during hot summer days. The AC lowers the humidity, and I've never seen one of my DVD cases soggy, warped, wet, or otherwise affected by the humidity.

I think (correct me) the biggest concern with humidity is that fungus may grow on the actual disc (I don't think BD is better protected in that regard). And apparently it is extremely difficult to kill the fungus if it appears.

Apparently they sell special cabinets that auto-dehumidify to whatever relative h level you want it to be at (some also AC it to a temp). No idea how much these things cost.

Fungus and humidity? I thought climate control was a wine and cigar thing. That is unless you plan on keeping them in one of those dark musty basements that have the acrid smell of dog for months on end. The only worry I ever had with with digital media was laser rot, but that was a laser disc issue. As long as you don't leave them in a car roasting in direct sunlight, I never heard of any storage problems. Fortunately, I live up in temperate New England where humidity is only an issue two or three months out of the year.

Is fungus growing on your TV, or your BD player, or your walls, or the inside of your cabinet? These are all exposed to the same levels of humidity. I live in south Louisiana, and believe me, it doesn't get much more humid than it does here and I don't have any problems of the sort.

I think I read about the fungus issue on a website that was selling these specialized humidity-temp controlled cabinets! So they probably exaggerated the danger.

I bet Monster Cable makes a special device to solve this problem....
