Default Question on Onkyo 605 and HDMI connection

I have an Onkyo 605 on the way and I have a n00b question-

Is it possible to hook up my 360 (via component) my wii (via component) and my PS3 (via HDMI) all to the receiver, and then send that all out to the tv via HDMI? Would I basically be able to reduce the wires running to the HDTV to only the one HDMI connection?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I wasn't sure if it was possible for the 605 to output all those different connections via HDMI.

It is possible to do so as it has 2+ component input and 1+ HDMI input and it outputs HDMI.

Please keep in mind that your 360 will be outputed HDMI but it will be limited by the component input. I would recommend inputing HDMI for it as the SR605 supports 2 HDMI inputs.

Thanks for the response. Actually my 360 is not an HDMI model. However, it'll output at 1080p via component so there's no limitation there. 1080p limitations over component are for movies only. Otherwise I definitely would!

But to know that it'll be possible to reduce all my wiring mess to the TV is a good thing.

The answer is yes, all those inputs can go out to your TV via one HDMI cable from the 605.

...if you connect the Xbox via component and output via HDMI, it will max at 720p.

would be best just to connect your component cable directly to the TV and the optical cable to the receiver.

Ah, really? If that's the case then I'll just hook it up directly to the HDTV. Doesn't make a difference for the Wii since it can only do 480p anyway.

That's how I have it now. My TV can definitely handle all the inputs, but it'd be nice to have it a little cleaner.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Thats the setting I could not find.. I believe I have to enter a menu when connected through componet to my tv correct? Then turn on HDMI out..

Then it should work correct?

Finally got my Polk 6750 speakers all set up and I'm quite happy. I ran the Audessy and it's pretty solid, but I still need to do some tweaking. One thing I'm not sure about is the sub. It sounds great but seems like it should be a bit louder. I've of course turned up the volume and that's helped, but it also seems like it's not kicking in as much as I'd like.

Anyone have suggestions on settings? Polk's manual is really light.

Anyway, thanks for all the help. I'm really happy with my surround sound already.

did you set speakers to "small"?

I guess in Onkyo's case you need to set a crossover, this will send the lower frequencies to the sub. (pg.70 user manual)

Btw 99% of games are in 720p anyway...even some aren't in 720p LOL ! so there's no real need for 1080p on Xbox 360, unless you have a HD DVD Drive..

There's not a "small" setting, but after some reading I set the speakers to 80hz and the sub to 120hz and it seemed to better send the lower stuff to the sub. I still need to tweak it more and learn this stuff. It's all new to me.

Ryooki- I know that most games are 720p or even lower, but I don't like the idea of it being locked there. I just wired it straight to the TV so it's moot anyway and I could keep my calibrations. Thanks for the info though. I do appreciate it.

You should also be able to adjust the level of the sub too. That'll make it louder! You should also set the sub at 80hz.

I'm a bit confused on the sub setting- shouldn't it be as high as possible so that it will reproduce as much as possible? Otherwise it would try and push them off the same way as the other speakers, wouldn't it?

When I tried that setting I felt that there was less bass reproduction. Am I misunderstanding it?

active ( powered ) subs usually have two settings...

Crossover ~80Hz will remove everything over 80 and send everything under 80 to the sub - Usual settings run from 150 Hz to 40

Gain - the amount of amplification or how loud it will be
